Unfortunately I am now a lone camper (bereavement) last year. Just me and my little dog. We went to Thetford Forest last weekend nice for the dog lots of walking, but not nice for me, apart from the odd passing walker and a quick hello, I never spoke to a soul all weekend, apart form the little dog and he never answers me.
I'll be retired in a years time, so will have time on my hands, hopefully.
I see there was a post a while ago for lone female campers, why not one for all lone campers, like minded people who enjoy the outdoor freedom of camping. Why not have a meet for all lone campers as long as at least a few turn up we should all be safe.
Any interest?
John

I am in the same predicament as you so I am all for it. I actualy live in Thetford forest or 2 mins walk to get into it.
How about getting a meet together for a start. There are some nice places that we could meet such as the Angel Larling. The ram Brandon, He said he would rig up leccy for a group. must be lots more.

Lone Campers meet

HI John, Bruce, Yes I'm 50+ just, and would like to camp with other lone campers I have also been away where I have only said a "Good Morning" to fellow campers all weekend, but generally find camp sites mainly friendly people, but you cant choose who will be camping next to you. I'm just up the road in South Yorkshire and go to many Camping Club Da weekend meets. so I will be interested in a weekend of us single campers if we get a few interested in the near future.

Hi All,

The other half is a bit of a fair weather camper so half the year if I want to get out and about I,m on my own. I do the odd weekend with the local DA meets but it would be nice to be out more often. May I suggest that a themed weekend might be a bit of fun. Something like a short coastal walk, tea in the pub and the bus back. That way anybody that can walk is involved. There are loads of easy country and coastal paths, all of which end at a pub that does grub.

Richard

I'm a solo camper too. I prefer this term to 'lone' which could be misconstrued as 'lonely' which I'm anything but! I love the freedom of solo-wilding although I also enjoy meeting up with others sharing the same independent outlook and putting faces to names.

I do my own thing and don't care who I meet of either gender, as I am looking to share experiences, rather than any dating type shop.

So I'd be up for it, with no preconceptions or conditions of whoever comes along.

I could be interested too - but availability might be an issue. I am based in Hereford, but am currently on an extended wander in France...my partner has to fly home tomorrow.

As some of you already know there are lots of great places in the Tetford forest areas. such as the St George Distilery, Brandon Mini Brewery, Icenoi Brewery, all give free tours to groupd. Then There is the Anglo Saxon Village and the Iceni Village, What we locals call 'anoraks corner', I.e. the plane spotting area at RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath. Nearer the coast there is the cromer Holt steam railway and some Great seaside villages such as Wells etc.
I am refurbishing my unit for the next two weeks but will then be out and about looking for suitable places for a group to stay. There is a site in the Thetford forest at Santon Downham which is used as a camp site when Live groups are playing in the forest opposite, so I shall investigate as to whether it can be used by a group at othe times.
In the meen time has anyone any sujestions as to where we could set up?
I personally do not mind where so long as it is withing half days travel.

Thetford Forest would be good for me, I am quite local to that.

Although, actually I have been on a couple of meets recently organized by another wild motorhoming forum where there were families, couples, singles etc

So I don't think you should exclude others. Just say primarily singles, but all welcome or something.

france/ spain for winter

interesting topic! i spent last winter in france, would like to do it again. i am not a sad lonely person as i have alot of interests, antique hunting, photography, hillwalking etc but it would make sense to travel with another, pref female, even just to share exps and a cup of tea. the price of diesel these days and no sign of it going down! have a 2 person quality conversion but considering going to the fatherland to by a hymer 'a' class for bit more room and privacy. i am a retd man with a van with no ties or pets. also, consider u can rent a gite or flat in s france in winter for 250 euros or less a month if u want to say put or want a base to travel from

I am looking at getting this first meet together in the Thetford forest area. I shall be home there in two weeks and will go round a few places and see where we cam camp.
There is a pub in Brandon which is central and opposite a micro brewery where they welcome visiting groups. The St eorge distillery is not far away and also dose tours / tastings.
However I do need peoples best dates. I personally would be looking at end August beginning Sept???
Please PM me

I would also be up for one of these.Have met a few who are interested so nice to meet a few new faces

Hi firefox
the point of this thread is for lone campers to meet up, if all welcome then it turns into the couples coming, I am not single but i do travel alone have been on meets and they are all couples, i think it would be really nice to have lone travellers male or female. me and another member on here have arranged a girls only night why dont you fellas arrange a men only night? (only tell me where it is tho) lol,

I'm not really interested in men only, or women only concepts in the nicest possible way :) To me, that sounds like something regressive out of the Victorian ages! I guess you may find a few takers, but most people in the 21st century have moved on from that, in my opinion. People are people to me regardless of gender.

If you've found all couples before, that's probably more something like one of the mainstream clubs who tend to have more conventional type members eg Stereotypical well-off retired couple with a posh new coachbuilt who only camp on "proper" sites.

The wild camping and internet forum crowds seem more of a variety of people. Younger, older, families, couples, singles, bikers, full-timers, innovators, self builds, and some older vehicles. More of a variety of backgrounds. That's just based on my personal experience of three or four meets.

Definitely not the crowd you meet on a Caravan Club site!

With respect firefox, this thread was started by a guy who expressed an interest in single/lone campers meet, you have asked why families cant be included, I think you are missing the point, there are loads of meets with families, couples, singles etc and why is it regressive to request a single/lone campers meet? surely its about individuality and choice, i would prefer to meet with a load of lone campers than couples, the ones i have met are not from as you say 'conventional type' members, far from it, its just uncomfortable for me when you turn up at a meet and they are all couples and you are on your own, theres nothing victorian about wanting to meet lone campers only, and its not about exclusion either, I am a Community Inclusion Officer and work tirelesly to include all in everything we do. and the reason i have arranged a girls only meet is because I WANT TOO, and I CAN thats my choice, women can then choose if they want to come or not.

Jenny

ps, perhaps you should read over your post, quite contridictory, you say 'people are people to you' this statement suggests you are accepting of anyone, another paragraph you say 'Stereotypical well-off retired couple with a posh new coachbuilt who only camp on "proper" sites' is that not judgemental? whats wrong with 'proper sites' as you say? is it not about choice and what each individual enjoys?, i for one do not begrudge any retired person or any person for that matter having a brand new coachbuilt and staying on 'proper sites' their choice, i detect a hint of jealousy in your post Firefox.

There's no jealousy in my post. I could afford to buy new coachbuilt about 20 times over ;-) It's just I prefer to build my own.

As for stereotypical, there's no criticism implied, that's merely the kind of people you will find on some kinds of sites. I've been there and seen it, so it's a statement of fact.

Lastly, you were the one suggesting I organised a men only meet. I'm not sure why, as it was me who was suggesting more inclusion, so I obviously have no interest in restrictions. I'm just explaining for your benefit why I would wouldn't bother with such things.
