Silverscreen Covers.

I had purchased the windscreen and bonnet covers from the above and used them for the first time over the winter past. Upon removing them I discovered that the surface of the cover had transferred itself to the bodywork of the van around the cab doors, wipers and down both sides of the windscreen. I contacted Silverscreen to report this and asked what the problem was, and got NO response as regards the fault, so it appears that they are not a very reputable or responsible company towards their customers. If you have their screens be warned do NOT use them in the winter otherwise you will end up with the same result. I informed them that I would be advertising their lack of response on various sites and on Facebook and still have had no contact from them www.silverscreens.co.uk

To be fair to the OP, I have heard of this problem before a couple of times. BUT in both cases the screens had been left on the vans over the winter whilst in storage and the material had started to break down and leave a residue behind which was cleaned off fairly easily apparently.

Having said that, I don't think that the screens are meant for long term use over a whole winter whilst in storage? So I would ask the OP if this was the case in their situation?

Even if your suspicions are correct, I reckon they should reply to the OPs message Rob. Ignoring their message is worse than anything else as far as I am concerned.
 
I have a Silverscreen windscreen cover and it is brilliant, however I would never, ever leave it on for a long period of time just overnight as others have said and as for Silverscreens not responding to communications, that is one major problem associated with communicating via email.

One important aspect I am not sure about which possibly other Silverscreen owners might be able to shine some light on is, does the company advise that their screens shouldn't be left on for prolonger periods of time?
 
They do state prominently in red that the screens are not for prolonged use.

However not to reply or communicate is disappointing. Was your complaint by email or did you telephone them? Are they a small firm with only a couple of staff or perhaps the firm operates part time. Either way customer service is important. I must say I was happy, albeit 6 years ago with their customer service. My screen is still in perfect condition, used extensively in France in spring and autumn and at home in the same seasons.

I have had my Silverscreen for 11 years, it has been in use for over 2500 nights travelling in Europe and at home to stop the van getting too hot in summer and cold in winter. They are often on for several days at a time. I have never had any problems with the paint or glass.
I must admit the stitching and Velcro is now deteriorating a bit, I will certainly buy the same again.

I don't know how the OP contacted them Bill, but they are not on this forum to defend themselves so we only really have half of the story.

A lot of damage can be done to companies by reports on social media, sometimes undeserved by vindictive customers. Not that I am saying that is what has happened here but I would like to hear what SS have to say about the matter.

They have been well defended on here Rob.

But from the OPs wording it appears he has left them on to long.
I have never used external covers, but I intend getting them for the new van conversion. I was quoted £450 to have them made for the current A class.
I will probably go for the Milenco covers, I have found anything they make tends to be well made.

I can't remember off hand whether I went for 'Silver Screens' or 'Taylor Made' Bill, I think it was the latter. Whichever it was my screen is excellent and so easy to fit. I will have a look tomorrow.

As you say though, Milenco are a good company but I have no experience of their screens.
 
To be fair to Silverscreen, they do say in the instructions that the screen is only intended for use while camping and warn against use when the van is in storage. I've noticed over the five years we've used a genuine Silverscreen that the outside has 'tarnished', but we've had no real issues and I'll wholeheartedly recommend their product. Communications with Silverscreen both before and after purchase was excellent IME -- but then my discussion with them was gentle and unlikely to end in a demand for compensation. My guess is that the OP has, contrary to the instructions, used the screen for storage over-winter, which has allowed the aluminium reflective treatment to be in contact with the bodywork long enough for it to permanently adhere.

FWIW, I'm always wary of Milenco. At one time they claimed that their towing mirrors were the only ones that could be legally sold in UK when that just wasn't the case (they were the only ones that complied with legislation not yet in force at the time). They tried to tell me the towing mirrors I'd just bought from a competitor were illegal even though my towcar was first registered before the cut-off date and that I must buy their product or face prosecution. When confronted, their rep was very evasive. Despite that, I bought a pair of their "Triple" levelling ramps based on their sales blurb as it seemed nothing else offered the same 'lift'. However, those levelling ramps were rubbish and seriously deformed at first use despite being loaded to only 2/3 design loading -- I ended up with a refund from the shop that sold them, but Milenco themselves were uninterested when I reported the issue. I have no experience of their covers, but my experience with the company suggests caution...
 
We have had both Silver screen and Polar covers for our first and second vans. No problems with either company or with their screens. They should respond to messages however unfounded a complaint may or may not be.
@Ninian If the OP has a complaint he could try going through resolver.co.uk and making it more formal to get a response one way or the other.
 
Used my Silverscreens cover for almost five years without any problems.
Longest time left on probably five nights.
 
Still using my original Silver Screen that i got for our first " new " motorhome back in 2005 for a X244 cabbed Adria Coral.

Also use it at home when it`s extremely hot and when it`s extremely cold, both occasions it`s on for several days or even weeks at a time.

The only thing that has let it down were the ties that you use on the door handles but the wife put much stronger ones on and that sorted it.
