I have used silver screens inside my t4, in the hot summer we had last year. They were excellent in keeping the heat from the sun out of the van.
We are now changing to an auto sleeper Neuvo, and I have read somewhere on here that external screens are good. Are they only used in winter, to insulate the van from some cold, or do they also keep the heat from the sun out. I know they are thermal, but does that mean they will keep the heat in in summer, which I do not want ? Sounds a silly question, but I am not sure if they will help keep the motorhome cool in summer. Also, is Taylor made one of the good ones to buy. It only sells on the internet ?
Thanks to all, :)

Taylor Made make a good screen cover, they stop condensation on the screen really well. Good for winter and summer as you say.
They do all of the motorhome shows or you can order over the phone.
They also do other sorts of covers including a good bike cover.

External screens;-

Good for keeping heat in, in winter so use less gas.
Good for keeping heat out in summer.
Good for keeping sun off upholstery.
Good for privacy.
Good for preventing condensation on windows.

Bit of a faff to put up/take down in a hurry.
Bulky to store.
Pain to dry
Expensive

Internal screens;-

Keeps some heat in, in winter.
Good at keeping heat out in summer.
Good for keeping sun off upholstery.
Good for privacy.
Can be removed quickly (good for wilding).
Does not get rain or snow on so easier to dry

Poor at reducing condensation.
A little easier to put up.
May fall off in middle of night.
Not as expensive but cost relative to thermal insulation so not cheap (use more gas).
Almost as bulky to store

In summery

We use good quality external in winter to keep the heat in and prevent condensation, a cheap internal in summer to keep heat out.

We've used a Silver Screens one for several years now. Great in winter for keeping in heat and stopping condensation, and summer for insulation. They're easy to fit once you get in the routine, and though bulky, they are light. Only drawback is when it rains, but IMHO the benefits much outweigh the problems.

Thank you, for your input :). As usual, I guess it has to be a decision thing, as both have good points. You all have given the points to consider.

Well, you have made a great decision with your new van - but I may be biased :-) !!

I have both external & internal screens, but something that no one has yet mentioned here is that it is possible to also use the external screens inside! Just fold the pocket that fits over the door inside out, and tuck them down at front of windscreen and fold visors down to hold them in place. I hardly ever use the internal ones.

I made my own internal ones for around fifteen quid. Not the prettiest but they seem effective; van was fairly cool today.

Certainly beats seventy quid for the shop or internet and I am not sure I would have found screens for a 1988 transit.

Did I mention that I am tight!

Taylor made

I've had both Silver screens and Taylor made, I prefer Taylor made when you roll the front down they have the privacy screen built in and they appeared better quality. Unfortunately they no longer do them to fit VW T4 so we had to get ours from Justkampers and they are not as good as either make.:juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle::juggle:

Internals are ok if you spend a lot of time on site...but if you wild I would have to go with internals. If it's all kicking off outside do you really want to get out and faff about with screens ?. Internals every time . No need to get out ...doors stayed locked and away in 10 seconds.

I don't like the sound of the places where you wildcamp. It's always peaceful and uneventful where I park, so my external screens are great

Never had to move.....but.......if If ever I do have to ( there are idiots everywhere) I want to be able to get away quickly
