Should I treat my underside?

So, I'm over the moon with my shiny new Devon/ Peugeot PVC. Now, would you give it some rust treatment or do you believe it's not necessary these days?

I was grovelling under mine (2013 plate) recently and I noticed a few flaking rusty bits, not on the chassis which I believe is galvanised but mostly on other brackets and stuff mainly due to the MH conversion. I'd love to be able to get it up on a ramp and give her a good seeing too. Not sure what I'd use so will follow with interest.
First person to mention KY jelly wins a Mars Bar.

I would personally ....

Waxoyl (old tech and left behind by more modern products )

Dinitrol
POR products
Buzzweld

Or Lanoguard IF you hug trees/crochet organic yoghurt
AND don't mind regular re application

All worth doing ....making sure you get plenty injected into box sections/seams etc etc

I would not bother trying to get underneath to apply any treatment.

But I WOULD go to a proper company who can apply a decent treatment and has the right facilities to get into all the nooks and crannies. And when the van is virtually brand new is the time to do it.

AS above, to do ones delf a compressor and parafine gun is required, box sections, door insides, sills , a frames and any x members, if not into car work like me then go to a pro, well worth doing.

Good advice IF you haven't got the gear at home OR enthusiasm ...

I would add though ...

Please check and read genuine feedback for those companies ....

There are a couple that regularly advertise this service that frankly I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot bargepole ...

Speaking as someone with,a foot in the landrover world (a vehicle that trusts only secondary to a transit )

One in particular sticks out as being regularly awful .

Any Scotland based members know of these guys?

The outfit I've posted above looks like a proper good quality operator. But if it's one of the ones you think should be avoided, I'd definitely like to know.

Well, having spoken to these guys and seen their Facebook page with pix of many of their jobs, I'm booked in for June. 😊
The cleaning up of the underside of my van will be easy given it's almost new, but they take on serious prep of older/rusting vehicles, especially Defenders and classic cars.

I would say not necessary. BUT it would increase the life of the van

All unpainted steel rots from day one, do you think they paint or prim insode sills doors a frames etc, big no, you should sort from day one if you intend to keep the van long term.

Worth bearing in mind that Ducatos/Boxers/Relays are galvanised and have been since 2007.

It's very effective at preventing rust. I'd question the value in rustproofing the vehicle. My 2007 Ducato based Autotrail Dakota is rust free after 18 years...

Its not hot dip galv, just a electroplate flash covering.

Ford used to call it Phosphate dip back in the 2000s

The whole citroen/Fiat/Peugeot version does wonders for Pain adhesion ....

How many of them end up with missing paint on bonnets/overcab where less than gentle pressure washing has stripped the paint .

No substitute for modern cavity wax treatments IMHO .
