Should I tidy up the 12v wiring?

Hi All,

Our campervan is a home conversion (not done by us!) and the wiring is a bit of a mess. It has a solar panel and solar power regulator unit (SOLAR30 is the make). The existing set up has the current from the solar panel passing through the regulator and into the batteries (as expected). However the load is coming straight off the batteries instead of through the regulator.

A big part of me would like to tidy it all up, and run the load from the solar panel regulator.

I'm relatively handy with a multimeter, but by no means an expert.

My questions are:

1. Do you think its worth tidying it all up, given that there aren't actually any issues (I know about) with the 12v appliances
2. Do you think its worth wiring up the load to come from the solar panel regulator? Is there any other benefit besides having the regulator cut off the load if the battery drops below the voltage threshold to indicate its flat
3. Does anyone have any suggestions, links or resources as to campervan 12v wiring best practice?

(I'll post a picture of the current set up when I get home)

With ANYTHING that some one else has done you can usually tidy it up, it has to be pleasing to the eye. Some people are just bodger's. Just blitz it.

If the regulator is designed to cut off the load once LB drops below a certain level this would be advantageous. Is there another means of charging LB? Fuses fitted as near to batteries as possible?

Is there another means of charging LB?

Yeah it charges from the alternator (which works well) and also supposedly from when the camper is plugged in at a campsite (is this called a float charger?) BUT the float charger isn't currently working. So it's just the solar panel and the alternator at the moment.

All the fusees are in the same compartment as the battery so I think it's all good there.

big part

Wallet or brain!
Save your time on your hands you may need it when you get older:hammer:
if it dont get hot and its been in for 10000 miles all good!

And just close the door,
