Hi all,

Heart health and eyesight issues dictate that I must sell my Chausson (2011). I have it advertised on autotrader and my ad appears to be getting a steady stream/trickle of hits - I wonder whether anybody has any idea how many hits on average are needed to generate a contact? And how many contacts/viewings, an offer?
I am assuming it works something along the same lines as Estate Agents although with different numbers, of course - perhaps I am wrong.
Your collective wisdom plus suggestions along the lines of dos and don'ts would be gratefully received from those with experience of going down this private sale route.
Many thanks in advance.

I sold my last van on Facebook Market place in 24 hours. It was a lot older than yours though so lower end of the market. I did a long write up and was 100% honest on all the faults as well as the good points. Could have sold it six times over. As long as you weed out the morons and scammers its a good place to sell and its free.

Autotrader and Facebook market place look to be good places to sell. Though be careful and don't let them test drive it without you sitting in it with them, even if they leave a brand new car with you for assurance that they will be back..
It could be stolen.
bank transfers of up to £20k (some £25k) are given by all banks and are immediate and non refundable as long as they click immediate..cheques/bankers drafts are a different obstacle and need a week at least.
Have you tried "we buy any motorhome" for a price. They used to offer around £8k less than what they would sell it for.
Good luck with the sale

We bought a 2006 Chausson Allegro 83 motorhome June 2024 for our daughter and family's European tour, and sold it on Autotrader in April 2025. It sold in around two weeks. As you say a lot of hits on the website and we only had two viewings. Our daughter wrote a personal introduction to the MH, how they used it and how it performed. I listed everything in the details; air suspension, lithium battery, etc. We also used used photos of the MH on location - not just sitting on our drive. For the internal photos I tried to show things actually working / in use. Don't know if any of this made a difference but the feedback was good, including from the dealer we bought it from.

Thank you @UFO - All incredibly useful information - I think I need to up my game and get enthusiastic about the sale which I really don't want to have to do.
