self builders check it out

interesting find . the boat world is always worth a look at .they have some great ideas ans great tables that can suit campers .
problem i see is its ok hiding a bed, can give space .but lacks storage space . having lack of storage space is the killer in many conversions . looks nice on first viewing . but not good in use. but nice find .

it's the mechanisms that interest me,trying to fathom them and maybe adapt them

Some fantastic ideas there. Not so sure many would work with lets say a panel van, but great on something like a luton or a larger truck with straight sides.

Mind you maybe a folding bed could be used up against the rear doors if there not used.

hi. yes i,m with you there . just have found going through life that a short advert like that looks good .but in use not so good.
its like the height of a seat in a motor home . too high uncomfortable .too low cant fit the items in .
tin the size of baked beans why this size ?
because it fits the box that fits the pallet that fits the truck that fits the so on son . .change one thing and its all messed up.
i never liked rock n roll beds ,in vw campers .but they still do them . i prefer the double back rest hinged style .simple easy and can be repaired almost anywhere.
but yes without innovation we dont move forward . but wall beds seems a move backwards . ha ha

There are some interesting ideas there. It's probably a better source for ideas rather than something that will fit directly into most conversions.

in the interests of my credibility i'll just point out that i wouldn't imagine any of these things going into a self build, but it might give people a few ideas on how to get the best use out of the space they have, perhaps using more than just hinges.for instance i also dislike rock and roll beds as space wasters and came up with a simple slide out in metal to give a 6 foot bed or loads of seating during the day, with a detachable kitchen which went into the awning, locked to the van of course, the interior living space was totally different to other more conventional vw vans.so anything that nudges our feeble brains outside the box,if only a little is a GOOD THING !

When planning my van went down the rock n roll bed route at first.(on paper) Just couldn't get over how much space they take up, and then virtually dictate the lay out. Suppose if you need extra seats with belts they may make sense.
