Self builder woes.

I think you are in this case, I assume buy any car collected from the correct address, the rest isn't something you would normally provide or be asked for after that, they will have done their normal checks as they will have a dealers trade account for vehicle checking, the next dealer would not expect their seller to be pulling a fast one, and maybe they buy from them all the time, it seems to me everyone did what your supposed to do but the original AHole selling a stolen van.

The issue is what more can any of us do, other than as you say see some photo ID & collect from the V5 address.
 
Surely a legitimate dealership would check that the person they're buying from is who they say they are beforehand?

How about checks in addition such as driving license, passport, utility bills to prove you are the real owner of the vehicle you are trying to sell?

Loads of other businesses/banks/councils/public services require this sort of information before proceeding with various transactions, so is it beyond the wit of "professional" vehicle dealerships to do similar?

Or is there something obvious I'm missing here??? :unsure:
Maybe the guy from we buy and the guy who sold it in the first place were in cahoots with the dodgy deal.
