Seized locks

Locks do not work? Where do you park it there might be something in it worth having.
Trouble with central locking is that is fails.

It's parked on my drive at home. It's about 6 feet from the lounge window on a gravel driveway so anybody approaching the van will have to make some noise however slight. The dog also sleeps where the window is and can usually hear a gnat land at 50 paces, so there is some additional security, and of course the disclok.

Yes, also batteries run out in fobs.

I only have one key fob, I checked with Renault yesterday and to get a new one will cost £207. I now think it may well be worth getting it. In the meantime, I shall continue to try and get the locks working.

Just been chatting with son in law and said I am often shocked when folks say how much things cost (in general not Motorhome’s) but £207 for a few components in a bit of plastic is scandalous. Probably normal but markup from manufacturing cost on that is probably over £200 lol

Have you got any firms like this near you Rob Home

Daughter managed to lose one of her set of keys for her C-Max and whilst Ford wanted nearly £300 to replace they did a new flip key fully programmed for £85.

The only thing it didn`t have was the Ford logo on it.

Yeah, I also payed way over the top for my alarm system to be fitted at home Neil.

After 'phoning places all day and either nobody answering or failing to get back to me, I finally got through to somebody who wanted to do business and went for it! I don't consider myself ripped off, I payed what I was willing to pay at the time, but I could have done the job myself for a third of the price (if I had any sort of talent which I don't).

The key I do consider a bit of a rip off though, they have you over a barrel, ahem, so to speak!

I don't know Graham, but I will certainly look into it!

Thanks.

Ours only came with one key so we got a mobile key chap to come and make another one - about £100 I think.

Years ago we used to have to pay £30 to get someone to plug programmer in so I reckon by the time everyone has had their cut up to a ton isn’t too bad. Stealers will rip you off then rob you though on something like that. I couldn’t believe they wanted over 600 for a tow bar when I got new car and that didn’t include fitting, I had to check it was an Astra I had bought and not a Porsche. Needless to say I had to buy a motorhome as I could tow anything :)

Your original post had me worried Rob, thought someone was grabbing your platinum tresses.

Many would love to Chris.

As it goes, I had my ears lowered this morning. I'm sure the barber sells my off cuts to George Cluney's wig maker.

My point was actually a serious one Rob. If you can vibrate it, it will free up unless the tumblers are made of something very cheap and totally rusted.

Not a bad shout Richard.

I could try holding the dremel against it blunt end first. I will try in the morning as off to the pub shortly.

If all others fail, the generally accepted product of first choice for freeing rusted parts (apart from an oxy acetylene torch and lump hammer lol) is..........PlusGas. And left to do it's work, at least for an overnight.

WD 40 is primarily a Water Dispersant, recipe Number 40 fish oil.
GT 85 smells nicer than WD 40.
ACF50 primarily a rust preventer.

ACF50 is for circuit boards nd all sorts of stuff Charlie was reading the application list of the tin and it sounded like it will do just about everything, mind you it should at the price. Wonder if it will grow some hair if I spray it on my head :)

Locks n stuff

Hi Rob (do you still live an irritating mile or so from the pub LOL ) WD will do the trick if you repeat spray, and it reaches the relevant parts that are seized, over 2/3days. As for ALL the above...locks and err.. others...they will seize if yer don't use em !! (Here's one...operate/use/lubricate every single handle/lock/hinge of your double glazing regularly or that can seize too !!). Maja07
