Security Devices

I have a Stoplock pro it`s worth having as i get 10% of my insurance. Also i have ,because i don`t have the Harley i use a Harley davidson cable which i used to lock both the wheels together and i thread it through the drivers door handle then through the steering wheel and round the pedals finally loking it with a Oxford monster motorcycle padlock.. The insurance company accept them i also have cctv on the front of the house.
Those bar type wheel locks are removed in seconds with a single hack saw cut to the rim .

Hopefully at the 3rd time of asking, we will be moving at the end of April away from our rural location and into a town. As such I am giving some thought to adding some security devices to our motorhome for when it is parked up at our new place.

Could I ask what you have as extra security on your MH? I'm thinking of mechanical devices here like the clutch claw, etc.
Phantom tracker device .

I have discloks on both the van and the car I always say it’s the second thing I put on after the handbrake I also have hook locks on all the van doors courtesy of Edlocks, at home I have a post that pops up behind the van on the drive.

You don't say if you are worried about having the vehicle nicked or the stuff inside getting swiped. So two options - 1. remove the battery and put it on charge in the garage. That will stop them driving it away. 2. take everything out of the vehicle that's worth nicking.

One thing for sure the boys in blue won't be interested if it gets stolen nor if any damage is done. All you'll get is a crime number so you can claim on the insurance. That's the new police policy, much more efficient to do bugger all than send Mr. Plod around to look at a space where your van was.

Whilst trackers have been mentioned, for me the most useful piece of security I have are the vibration monitors that link to my carlock tracker.
They link via Bluetooth to the tracker fitted to the vehicle battery and the tracker is linked to my mobile phone. If any sensor detects vibration within 15 seconds I get an alarm on my phone that is impossible to ignore.
I have several fitted throughout the van and one in my roof box.
The tracker will also notify me if the engine is started or the location changes.

The tracker is £30 odd quid with an annual subscription of £70 and the vibration sensors are about £20 each.

I wouldn't be without them now.

Well the police ,which mag and the AA recommend the stoplock pro steering wheel lock as one of the best and is thatcham approved. And 10% of my insurance i`ll stick with it.(y)
Personally I am wary of getting a discount for using these kind of devices. It is not that I don't believe they are effective, but what happens if you don't use it one day and your van gets nicked? insurance won't pay out? or if it is nicked you have to prove it WAS in use (which is hard to do unless you take a photo of the steering wheel every time you park up).

Maybe overly cynical but a minor benefit weighed against the potential major hassle if a claim is required.

Quite true you are committed to using them every time you park anywhere. That's why I don't bother with the discounts.

If the van is stolen surely the hacksawed device goes with it or else if you find it get rid of it,simple.

Look at reviews ,what the experts recommend. they test them ,then choose depending on your pocket, buy the best.

Another downside to the bar type locks is they can be,used to provide extra leverage to snap the steering column lock
Before easily being removed with a quick quiet cut to the wheel rim .
