Any recommendations on an overnight stop (camp or wildcamp) relatively handy for the Scrabster Ferry? TIA

image.jpgimage.jpgGo to the harbour master booking office and ask in their to o/n on keyside .i spoke to a lady she came and looked at our van and said no probs.its 6-0 mtrs
Also lidl on the left before you hit the harbour ,we asked when buying milk n bread to stay in car park if needed and manager ok'd it
One more is if you pass the harbour entrance on right stay on main road and a short distance on left there is a hard standing set back from road that is used also
Hope this helps
Also if you have a all you can eat breakfast on board for £9 odd I think both o you would be able to get fed and as much tea/coffee you want ,tight scots you see

Last May we parked up in the car park, on the harbour across from the hotel. Arrived lateish, had a couple of beers in the pub and moved on early to catch the ferry. Had quiet night with no problems.

Paul the picture I posted isn't where I o/n
I reversed towards a barrier opposite the office /pub and overlooked the boats below me .
It was the steward on the boat that put us wise about the meal and I let the rest of the vultures that were on a later sailing about it ,hope they dinnae read this!
If you get the break get a side plate fill it up then head on back. The guy obviously realised I was underfed and Took great pity on me .

I'm working up there right now & pass that road end daily. It's not before the Sun's up early Ferry so as well as begging around with harbour and Lidl why not rock about a mile or two away at Thurso Harbour ? It's not in POI'S yet I need give Chris loadsa new updates for there and Orkneys. Zoom in Google earth just off Cafe and you'll see a Camper at Thurso harbour entrance.

HTH Chrz Mul.

I have stayed at at Castletown just to the east. There are several POI locations there and it's a lovely peaceful place. Recommended.

We had a couple of peaceful nights along with several other motorhomes at Thurso car and lorry park here(58.594811, -3.515492)..............Google Maps

My daughter andf I used the Cafe Tempest (just along the harbour a little) and we liked it ... dog friendly with the tables outside too.

Yep, that year we had gone for our usual wander around the coast before it was known as the NC500 and our arrangement that year was that we didn't cook anything at all for the two weeks ... apart from tea first thing in the morning. Each year when we used to do this, we had some sort of theme which we had to stick to, that was the rules ... that was the year that saw me mooning a tour bus, I don't know where the little sh!t got the idea from (she was about 13ish at the time,) but rulez are rulez, though I did have the last laugh ... I spotted an empty tour bus in a pub car park and mooned that, my dignity was spared!

although not as convenient as the car and lorry park there are a couple of forrest carparks quite close - a bit more scenic!

the one on the A9 near "Georgemas railway station" is good - no early or late trains!

the only thing you can say about Thurso is that it is slightly (very slightly) less depressing than Wick!
