Hi

i have read the debate over Tomatoe or Brown,(mines brown) howz about Scotland or Cornwall, say which one you prefer and why, for those of you havent seen my previous threads, i'm for Scotland because of the outstanding beauty, quite unspoilt roads, the people, the culture, the diverse weather, yes there's the midges but if you stick to the coast there's no problem, well thats my reasons, lets hear yours

thanks

Jenny

well i like cornwall . as i live here its a good thing. dont like the weather in winter but then dont like it anywhere in uk in winter . the best bit is its only 30mile to a ferry to france or spain . catch it today be in spain tomorrow in my truck or on my m,bike. roll on november eternal summer and no midges.

I would rather battle or suffer the midges and the odd grumpy Fifer than cope with the contents of Cornwall, and Devon. Seems the whole of the South-East counties with their aggressive and inconsiderate driving habits fill-up the south and south-west.

After late Autumn when they all scuttle back it's a little safer.

Trouble ahead though, there are so-many of us motorhome-ers in the last few years all heading up-north for some peace, quiet and culture, some of whom have little respect for anyone after forking-out whatever it cost to buy their home on wheels that the Scots are getting close to re-building the wall.

north or south?

As for me, I never seem to get that far!

love the west coast of scotland, glencoe, skye and further north, fine folk, highland games, kippers, views and whisky.

love the south west, rugged coasts, fine pubs, pasties, better weather, music festivals.

but get distracted by northumbria and the lakes heading north, welsh borders/pembrokeshire, dorset heading west.

ah well, it's a hard life and no mistake.:D

Scotland in the spring, "home" for summer (in inverted commas because home is the van these days), Cornwall and/or France in the autumn and southern Spain or somewhere equally warm in winter. Its a hard life but somebody's got to do it..........

I need to go-out more, Northumberland, SW of Glasgow is an area people miss and of course pembrokeshire.

Don't come to North Pembrokeshire, you won't like it. Empty roads, aging kitesurfers who think they own the place and wild-camping but please-please-please be sensible because each and every spot is being recognised and closed-down.

Peace, perfect peace.

The pub at Newgale beach appears to be organised now after a shaky start, I noticed 7 motorhomes parked-up at the weekend on the tarmac parking at the rear of the property. The initial problems were caused by wild-campers who didn't even buy a drink in the pub and stayed all night.

If you intend to stop-over, please ask about the rules and whatever he wants.

Parking at the beach car-parks is still being miss-used by motorhomes using the next bay to set-up a table and chairs, this is a car-park. If you pay for the next bay you'll deprive another visitor of a parking space.

If there's enough conflict PCC will no-doubt restrict motorhomes during peak period. (My view)

Scotland is definitely the best.
More beautiful
Quieter roads.
Easier to park

Scotland in March is best.

Snow on the hills, none of those bleeding motorhomes clogging up the place. Perfick.

in march i prefer maroc or spain .still have snow on the hills but the locals speak english i can understand. non of your midden bits. ha ha .

Scotland no contest. :D

Cornwall and most of Devon are more like London on sea these days. It's so crowded down there now, and the A38 from the M5 to the Tamar bridge is like a 24hr race track. :(

I remember 25 years ago Cornwall really was a place you would happily move to. Now its all owned by London money.

I'm still nervous about wild-camping though i'm interested. Respectfully-nervous is my best description of how I feel but that's likely to get blown-away by my first experience a couple of years back.

We pulled-up at the grass between the beach and road at Kyle-of-Tongue, opposite was a small fenced-off field marked, camping, but unsuited to motorhomes so we stayed where we were. Yes there was a sign for no-overnight parking though i'm aware the local-authorities don't want to be responsible for the positions or policing of these signs.

We had a peacefully night spoilt by cars pulling-up and revving their engines then pulling-away, the following morning I spotted the lady staring at us with hands-on-hips. Clearly she wanted us in her camping field and yes I would have obliged if access was resonable and frankly i'd have been happy to give her a fiver to empty and fill my tanks but the stare put me off and the revving engines on the way-back from the pub were doubtless, 'by-design' so I ignored the unsociable stance and it remains my first memory of wildcamping in Scotland.

Because of my personality rather than my pocket i'm unsuited to campsites so small CL's are how i'm feeling my way into wilding.

I'll keep-on reading the mail on this forum and get a feel for the whole thing.

try it

Noody mate, i didn't like beer the first time i tried it, but i stuck to it and it paid dividends - wouldn't go back!

it's just the same with wilding, you get some tossers ( some of whom post on here!;) ) but generally, everyone leaves you be. lock the doors and get your head down.

speaking to my mate who lives in fort william it seems cornwall is winning with the weather stakes .he says you need a thick jumper and a mac to be up with him this last 2 weeks. still in t shirts in cornwall. glad alot of you dont come down here more space for us ,hee heee. cheers alan.

how does cost differ in Scotland to Cornwall? Petrol, Services, even a loaf of bread etc.

hey, im female, im practical and usually control, the money! :D

loaf of bread 85 for coop own make normal shop over a quid never go to them usually coop or asda. petrol garage 116 diesel 120 in a bp garage but again go asda normally.milk its all about the same in super markets .fish n chips 4,50-5.00 . pasty 2,20 . i only buy beer and wine in spain so cant tell you uk price. have a truck bring home lots. ha ha spirits all bought in spain.i,m told by my mate that fort william is dearer than cornwall. i never go as its easier to jump on ferry to france than drive to scotland. get on ferry tonight in brittany at 7 in the morning. lovelly. not tonight though hospital tomorrow to have a tooth out .seems its a wisdom tooth i,ll be even more stupid on thursday. hee hee.
but if anybody fancies a few nights on my drive let me know can accomodate up to 35 ft length. but give notice .please. sunny and warm here. m,bike riding later my first love. apart from me.
cheers alan
by the way if you have the money cass come down here i,ll help you spend it. i dont charge much.

aww when did fish and chips get so expensive? i remember when cod n chips and a bottle of coke cost 99p, and we'd nip next door to buy a penny sweet with the change!

if you are very lucky you may find some for 3,75 but they are hard to find. its like buying a cup of coffee or tea.could be 120or 160 i did buy a pint and a glass of coke the other day 3,90 didnt go back for more. you want to see the prices abroad makes uk seem cheap. last winter prices were way above uk . we never ate out or had a coffee anywhere but inthe camper.

i guess they have to make a living, but i think some take it too far.

so whats the prices where you are?there must be someone in bonny scotland can tell us from up there. i know ft. will. suffers as its lacking variety of supermarkets etc. even car and truck bits travel miles to get there.

ah i buy my alcohol from the uni bars, so way cheaper than most places. i only buy coke if its real coke and not that syrup flavour stuff that comes out of the tap!
