Scotland - First Timer (Looking for advice)

Hi, I mentioned the route as you did not mention Glencoe, which is worth the drive through, from LL follow the A82 to Corran. To follow the A83, this route to me, is a bit of a faff, you also have to pass over the Rest and be Thankful, which is currently closed due to another landslide, it may well be open for your trip, but with the current weather systems hitting the country, more landslides are possible, and the Rest is notorious for slides after periods of heavy rain.

Another factor for my suggested route, no requirement to book a ferry using Lochaline to Fishnish. This allows you to either return to mainland same crossing, or book Craignure, making crossing one way, of course.

There are other options too, depending on time, you could do Kilchoan to Tobermory, or vise versa? That is the beauty of Mull, three ferry crossing points, which allows to view more of the rugged country. Another good site for research purposes: see link and scroll down to map.

Just checked, Rest and be thankful opens end of next week, meanwhile the Old Military Road is open for one way convoy traffic.

Just tried this link. Didn’t work. May be on account of them terminating what was intended to be an experimental trial.
Its not been terminated. In view of the huge amount of emails they got it has been reinstated. Sorry I got my scot and gov the wrong way round in the link.

Scotland is still very wary of Covid and as I'm sure you'll be aware, has different responses and restrictions from England.
The islands are being very protective of both their populations and their landscapes.
Many campsites all across Highland have not opened at all this year, including some of the main club sites, and of those that are open many are only offering parking and habitation services with no communal facilities; very few are allowing day visits for servicing (fresh water, waste). Those that are open are currently fully booked, hence the need for pre-booking; however if you're off-site you should be OK on the mainland, but I'd check directly with the islands before off-siting there OR just try for a site.
My home is N-W Scotland with family in the south so I make the journey through your destination area any number of times per year. Personally I now rarely travel the west of Lomond; I prefer the longer route to the east and there are plenty of safe overnight spots - some are even near shops and restaurants (yes we do have shops in Highland).
What I would suggest you stock up on before travelling - and whenever you get the opportunity - is fuel and lpg as the supply can be interrupted.
Sorry to say that a little more planning is needed this year but generally speaking - if there's no deterioration in the Covid situation - good m/h behaviour will see you through and you'll have a wonderful time in a friendly, generous, and beautiful part of this glorious country.

That looks like the starting point for Ben More the islands only Munro.
But as Robert stated it’s a great spot, and if you fancy doing the champagne summit of Ben more you are ready to go. You may be asking why it’s called the champagne summit. Well many Munro baggers make it their last Munro and have a wee drop at the summit. Look out for the champagne corks if you head up there.
Indeed it was our last Munro. However it was so cloudy that we had to come off the summit before we popped the champagne!

Continuing with Mull, one of our favourite places, if you;re taking the trip to Fingal's cave be sure to get one that include the Treshnish (sp?) Islands too as you'll see (close up) more puffins that you can shake a stick at!
