Scarbados

Fabulous day today. Lovely weather, cracking ride up the coast on the bike and a good rake around Scarbados (Scarborough). I managed to find my old little boating lake / pond where I used to sail my little toy yachts as a child.

There is some big Goth Thrash metal festival going on at the Spa so met a few fellow Rock Goth types. :D

It was busy but not as busy as I thought it would be and the traffic wasn't too bad. Not that it matters on the little bike, it just sails past everything :D Distinct lack of motorhomes on the front now they have been banned from overnighting. I have to say it looks better without them.

Stopped of at Filey on the way home.

Did Michelle take most of those pics? Some are really nice, and others amn't

I remember that lake well, my Dad had a Bedford van in the late 50's because we had a large family, we used to park near the beach on the South side, spent the day in Scarborough, visited the lake, then fish and chips, we occasionally spent the night there, without any trouble, I seem to remember a cafe close by with an outside toilet, never locked in those days.

You have aged well 😉

Seriously though, I love old family photos like this, I have none of my family, lost them all

Brid was fairly quiet yesterday except at lunchtime when every man and his dog was on the harbour getting fish and chips for lunch we were up on the south beach very quiet more bunnies than people.

When we used to stay at Bobby B's at Burton Fleming (wonderfully quirky site (and owner)

We would often give Brid a miss and head to Hunmanby gap with the dogs....
Great quiet beach and brill little Cafe on the hill.

Such a lovely part of the world...

Off up to Bempton cliffs shortly to pick up Michelle. She has walked there from Flamborough head looking for Puffins I think. :D
I can smell Bempton from here.... We used to visit the ROTOR station there...
Till the insides became rather sketchy.

There was a bungalow in a farmers field at the back of Bempton cliffs that went down about 4 floors with blast protected bunkers etc.

Never knew that. Thanks for the link. Reminds me of the secret bunker I once had a look round up near St Andrews. That was just an innocent looking farmhouse. It was huge underground.

My late father was, a self employed builder one of his customers was a pretty high up chap in the CEGB....
We managed some interesting trips due to his influence...

A innocent looking bungalow in Bramhall in Cheshire that was over a protected control room where a large chunk of the northwests electricity generation was controlled from (back in the days when the UKs power 50htz supply was down to a chap watching a meter and the TV with phone in his hand ready to ask Hydro station at Stywlan dam to open the tap to generate power to up supply when everybody stuck the kettle on in ad breaks/end of programme etc)

Was like the set out of a bond film....

The generator floor of Stywlan hydro....

And we one of the last to walk through the main water tunnel before commissioning of Dinorwig hydro Station....
Absoloutely vast.... In there.
