Satnav Co Ordinates

Just visited 3 sites kindly suggested by Trevor,I could'nt camp this weekend but did a recce on Saturday and was very impressed.
Thing is,Trevors co ordinates from a tom tom were slightly different to my garmin. However, punch them in to google earth and, hey presto, the earth spins around and takes you to the exact point.
I spent the rest of the weekend trying to work out where my satnav is going wrong and finally sussed it.
Anyone having similar problems,I'll be happy to advise while it's still fresh in my mind.
Thanks again Trevor for your help. Lenny

PS tried to attach photos but nowt happens when I click on manage attachments...Help please..

It would be interesting to see what Tom Tom and Garmin had to say about this. You could try sending them an email. They usually take a couple of days to reply but you will get an answer.

or leave a post on this site http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ This web site is very helpful when it comes to techy questions about GPS. Just make sure you post your question in the right section otherwise it gets deleted.

Glad you like those places Lenny i was at Amble and Hadston Beach on Saturday, did not stay but my mate and i went to try another site about 20 miles west of Amble.
Lenny try this for your Photos go to photobucket upload your photos on there then copy the image tag of your photo you want to put on here and paste it into your message and hey presto_Oh by the way if you want to see if it has worked ok just click on preview post then your photo can be seen instead of the link.
My mate has a Garmin and i have a tomtom and our coordinates and route differ as well, I would like to know how you sussed it.
I did see a few vans around Amble on Sunday, when we returned to Hadston beach and stayed for the night.

hi,
there are three formats of GPS coordinates and you must use the corect one or you get differant locations.

john.

garmin set up

Hi thanks all for the response. If you want your garmin to work with google earth you must change the co ordinate location format ,to do this this, turn on your satnav, click menu then settings,go to units set up,then location format, mine was set up on [hddd mm.mmm]. scroll up and find [hddd.ddddd],then ok this. also check the datum is WGS 84.
I don't know what all of this means but it worked for me.
I think you can even set it up to show a 6 figure grid reference, as used in ordnance survey maps, but I like the google earth.

Good luck, Lenny
