Satellite receiver recommendations

Hi for many years we've been using a Maxview manual system last year we had to replace our old receiver because BBC now only do HD transmissions. So we used a spare receiver we use at home but finding the signal hasn't been so easy with this really a bit of a struggle at times compared to the old Maxview receiver that we could locate the signal in just a 3 or 4 pass's. My question is what receivers are others using
 
I use both, Satellite has never failed to lock on to a signal when in all area's of north west Scotland unlike the Mifi and phone which occasionally fails to get a signal.
 
Personally it’s very rare that I watch TV, but if I do it’s almost never while in the Motorhome on such occasions I rely on 5g (was 4g till recently) it that fails I go to my Freesat app and record the programme at home, or more likely don’t bother.

Bah humbug, no tv for me as no interest, wife different story, corry/emerdale lifes medicine.
 
Sky signal petred out just north of Alesund, I was amazed I could receive anything. Luckily I was able to watch the cricket. Now further north there’s nowt which is to be expected.
 
I've a LG TV with built in satillite recievier, Saves another box. With a 85 megasat 📡 auto-dish .

I use an Octagon SF8008, it is a 12v Linux box so as well as two satellite tuners it is used for streaming as well, if you only have a single LNB you can buy this with one satellite tuner, it records/rewinds and pauses live TV if you use a usb hard drive

I think many use an integrated tv/sat nowadays, my gut feeling is you would be better off with a dedicated satellite receiver such as a TM-5402, but somewhere like satellitesuperstore might best advise you on a box with fast reaction time.
There is another way if you are happy to carry your old box and new one, tune to a channel which still uses SD on your old box then swap boxes, depending on your tv this could be as easy as a couple of buttons to push.
i.e. fit a A-B switch between dish and both boxes, and plug in boxes to different tv inputs.

I have a self seeking satellite system on my A/S Bourton. I am going to remove it because this camper is very difficult to get under 3500kg., so if you want to buy it, let me know.

New van, no extra weight required by adding a satellite dish this time. Loading up IPads with recorded stuff we’ll probably never catch up on and streaming anything that might crop up on the journey. Good quality mifi, antenna and sim, but If the signal isn’t good enough in a remote area, wait until you are somewhere with enough signal, record what you want and watch later. EE seems to have its own VPN, anywhere in Europe (ok apart from two or three countries) it’s good for BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video - more than you can shake a stick at 😉
 
Where would I get tutorials on how to load up ipads, streaming and playing it back ****? We think we are with it, taking DVDs of Dads Army, Allo Allo and The Sound of Music but this new stuff we have no clue. We do have a laptop, an old ipad that I never learned how to use, and somewhere we have an old 12v TV. The camper wagon has a TV mount, and presumably therefore a 12v supply.
Where are you on the IOM? We used to live in Peel, overlooking the bay to the castle. Marine Parade.

We've been using Amico receivers, for several years, now, and find them much better than others, that we've used, in the past.
They are available from Robert Jackson, to name but one supplier. If you are interested, give them a call.
There is a UK Amico supplier, but, unfortunately, I think they only deal with the trade.
