Satellite Dishes and trees

I was considering a snipe system,
Do you know of any being used where you are likely to use it as the signal not only goes down when heading south but also north and larger dishes are also recommended for use in Scotland.
IMO nothing beats a large manual dish

No my knowledge is extremely limited on this subject. But I agree with what barryd was saying regards to use of a mifi. Things are set to improve dramatically soon with 4g covering nearly all of the country by 2025. I use a mifi with a fire stick and find its great where I don't a get a signal on my directional aerial. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

No satellite but I do use streaming, I have an aerial I can use if I am in poor signal area but for me that isn’t often. I am exclusively U.K. there are parts of Scotland and the Kielder Forest that are poor but apart from that it’s been good

If I was not intending any foreign travel I'd try a mobile router all I use at home and away is a Huawei B311 with a contract sim unlimited data £20 a month 240v with adaptor at home 12v in the van Works well in EU as well but data isn't unlimited when roaming

Thats what I do now witzend I have an Huawei router, I have unlimited data with 3 and I use a firestick. But we go to places with no tv, radio or internet.

As usual I’ve got the lot. Fire stick with some strange chemistry loaded on it from a friend gives every channel in the world. Wee sat dome for when there’s no wi fi Signal. But to be truthful I watch more documentary stuff discovery channel and the news at night but we can go weeks without even turning the tv on that just means we’re having a good time and don’t need it.

I watched a guy walking around different pitches on an aire with a compass. Then parked, scurried inside looking at the telly, moved, and again.

I opened another beer and adjusted my chair to face the setting sun lol.
Meanwhile Tommy is ripping his hair out because you haven’t sorted out his tv 😂😂

Just look when a French van pulls in. The first thing they do before opening the door, (apart from the lady in charge guiding the driver to where she wants the van parked) put the dish up and move and move and move again until they get good reception

Lately, we have been using Mobile Data for TV
Bear in mind that a French van may not be using the same satellite; the difference in orientation can be critical in some situations.

I was going to post last night that in 18 months my roof mounted auto satellite has never failed to lock on.
Sods law I have just arrived in the lakes and no way will it lock on. I’m on my usual CS site pitch, no trees so bugger knows what the issue is.
I washed the roof last week and had the dish up to clean it so I hope I haven’t caused a problem. So it’s back to my Avtex aerial for tonight, will try the satellite tomoss and if no joy will contacts Jacksons as it has a 5 year warranty.

yeah they can be an issue. I got so skilled in knowing the direction of the satellite over the years I could drive onto an an aire which had trees on it and know exactly where to park and where not to. :D How far north or south you are makes a difference as well.

I always try to avoid shady pitches anyway even in Europe in summer unless its really Scorchio. I like a bit of light and a view. Its one reason I dont like European campsites. They are nearly always hidden away in a flipping rain forest.
I've watched you drive round and round in circle for 2 days trying to find the best signal, soon as you found it I pointed my aerial in the same direction 😝

Why do people put satellites on the roof ****. Stick em on the passenger seat like I did.

We were in an urban car park in Cumbria surrounded by high ground. I could not get a TV signal and I could not put the freestanding dish outside. I noticed that the correct orientation was suitable to put it on thhe passenger seat with the window wound down. Luckily for me it worked and was up and running before Corrie started ... phew.

After Corrie we took the dogs on the beach and I shut all windows and locked the van. When we came back I put the TV on again and we had been watching it for a while before I realised the windows were still closed. So, you can set up a dish inside your van as long as it is pointing in the right direction. About 11 pm it started raining, the windows became covered in raindrops and we lost the reception. :(

It was pointing out of the passenger side window Terry. I doubt it would have worked through a laminated windscreen though. :(

Sold our Snipe II on EBay the other week. Only problem we had with a Snipe ariel was when it decided that it didn't want to come down again. Then the only course of action is to get it off the roof. Always happens at inconvenient times. The Carthago we have now has an ariel in it. The Tv reception is great its just that I have no idea where the ariel is. With regards to trees you do need a clear view between you and the satellite so you need to know where it is. If you cannot get a clear view the Snipe will never find it. Tried the Snipe II on the table in the garden. No trees and nothing in the way and it took it a couple of goes to find it. I think the computer chip must have popped out and had a look which way our Freesat ariel on the back of the house was pointing.

We have the snipe 3 on the roof of our Hymer, perfect, but you do have to watch where you are parked in relationship to the trees, bearing in mind most ? satellites are in the south
