Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could advise me where to go for a satellite dish on the roof and i require internet at all times. Is there a firm that can do this for me > Or should i get the dealer to recommend someone do you think ?

Unfortunately not near you but I have twice used this company.
Internet Systems
They are Oyster satellite experts and will fit systems at your home if required. Looking at tv and internet systems on their site it's not going to be cheap.

Why do you need Internet at all times ...

SWMBO uses an IPad tethered to her iPhone on a contract. We also have a MiFi unit for trips to France / Spain.

To run my business.....not quite ready for retirement yet lol

Satellite internet is not exactly cheap (for the hardware or the ongoing costs) and it does not guarantee an internet connection irrespective of location. You have to have a clear line of site to the satellite! This can be obstructed by all manner of things, including trees, buildings, rock faces...
It can provide coverage in areas where you don't get a mobile signal or can't pick up WiFi, but not absolutely everywhere. Given the cost, it warrants considerable thought and analysis.

Have a look at

Maxview Omnisat VuQube Auto Satellite System | Leisure Outlet

As an alternative to a Roof Mounted Sat System.

& if your just wanting emails & General web browsing Then look at a 'Hawie' Internet box on the 3 Network. Its worked both on my Boat & on The Nest just fine. Its PAYG internet & Trouble free. But you do need to think about it if its CRITICAL that you need internet constantly !.

Are you sure that you are not confusing satellite tv and mobile internet? If you really want satellite internet then be prepared to spend some big money though. Also remember that if you are thinking of picking up UK satellite tv in Europe then you pretty much will get nothing South of Bordeaux.

But note that Maxview Omnisat VuQube Auto Satellite System is stated to enable you to "receive UK channels in every part of the UK". I suspect that it may well have too small an antenna to provide you with UK channels as you move south on the continent.

How far south you can receive UK channels depends very much on the satellite antenna. With a Snipe Pro Max, I was able in 2015 (i.e. after reduction of footprint) to receive most UK channels (the exclusion being HD, but the same channels were still available in SD) down to between Montauban and Toulouse, after which they progressively dropped out, with very few being available around Carcassonne.

Heaven forbid i just looked at that thing, its amazing.technology blows my mind, I'm more of a creative person, lol!...Its just access to emails is what i need, and a couple of cloud based software thats all. I dont download anything....Its not that I'm tied to my job or anything, but knowing that my staff can get me , gives me that piece of mind i will need whilst travelling, and more importantly they need to know they can get me also......and then everyone is happy haha!

For Internet, contact Motorhome WiFi | Improving Wireless Range for Caravans and Campervans and discuss it with Adam. You can, of course, go it alone, sourcing kit similar to what they offer; the advantage of MHW is that they have considerable experience, so should be able to give educated advice based on your stated criteria (think about your goals, rather than your perceived solutions) and they provide excellent after-sales support.

You beat me to it! I would also recommend talking to Adam.

I am semi retired and need to connect when abroad to do remote support as and when but I do need to check emails every few hours as well.

I get by on my phone for just glancing at emails but what you probably need is a Mifi unit with a sim like the 3 feel at home or similar AND an iBoost wifi antenna. Both of these will act like a wireless router in the van. Wifi being the first choice if you can get onto a free connection such as SFR FON in France (BT Fon here) and if you cant you use the Mifi unit.

I find I mainly get by with just the iBoost and my phone for checking emails.

Adam is a good bet, I'm sending this using his kit and I'm logged onto a BT Fon box over 2 miles away. But I would not rush into it. These things only work on line of sight so you are not guaranteed a signal. I seem to remember you said in another of your threads that you would be using campsites, at least initially. Most campsites provide wifi, at least in the reception area, some free some charge, that plus your mobile phone would be enough to keep in touch whilst you get the hang of this motor homing game 😄😄

Up Your phone package

I would just up the phone package to unlimited data and then tether to laptop tablet bingo done. The dishes are at prices that you need to have a lay down after being given your quote

Good choice but I would get a Mifi unit as well as a back up and fit an appropriate sim for where your going then you have all bases covered.
