Sat navs and LEZ zones.

You were lucky (?), I inadvertently intruded into the London LEZ and was unpleasant try surprised to receive a penalty charge of £500. I appealed in the same way as you hoping for a hint of compassion but no such luck. Motorhomes 3.5 tonnes and over fall within the commercial vehicle scheme…………

Sorry folks, didn’t post my message properly, old age being the excuse, one of the same reasons I used to appeal my penalty charge………

The way I’m understanding it, anywhere that offers exemptions over and above the published national list of exemptions (i.e. in our specific case that would be Motor Caravans) then you have to pro-actively inform the authority responsible for each CAZ zone in order to become exempt.

The downside is that (as far as I know) the only CAZ zone currently offering such exemptions for Motor Caravans appears to be Newcastle City Council.

If anyone knows otherwise for any of the other UK CAZ zones it might be useful to know which ones? 👍
Hello my little Gnat friend.

Scotland ;) ;)

Be aware, any errors or omissions on the V5 can confuse the ANPR system and this can result in the DVLA informing the zone to issue a PCN

Yes, me, just!

I don’t live in Newcastle. I live in County Durham, but now registered to travel through Newcastle’s CAZ zone for free.

You lot seem to have the attention span of gnats and the reading capabilities of blind bats 🙄😜🤣🤣🤣😘
I never knew you could do that, thank you.

When I asked Sheffield about their zone I was told the cameras would not recognise my Spanish plates. Been in 3 times now and all good so far, but maybe bills in my letterbox in Spain ?
Had confirmation from Newcastle clean air zone today that foreign registered vehicles cannot be fined as no records of addresses on database.
Don't intend to abuse it and will try to avoid zone at all costs but nice to know an accidental incursion would be ignored.
Email also confirmed that uk registered motorhomes can apply for exemption from the Newcastle charge.

This is where I went Marie

If I just check then I get this.

That's just for Blue Badge holders, which doesn't apply to Neil or myself. 🤷‍♀️👎

This is the relevant extract from your Lower Emission Zones Scotland (Blue Badge holders only!) page link:-

Register for Blue Badge holder exemption

If you are a Blue Badge holder, and the vehicle you are travelling in is non-compliant and does not have disabled vehicle/disabled passenger vehicle tax class, then you will need to register for an exemption in advance of travel to the LEZ.

Blue Badge holders can register vehicles for either Long Term or One Day exemptions which will apply to all LEZs in Scotland. Exemptions can be registered for up to seven days in advance of travel and before midnight on the same day of travel.

Long Term Exemption

You can register a vehicle for a Long Term Exemption, provided the vehicle is registered to your home address. The Long Term Exemption will remain active for as long as the Blue Badge is valid unless otherwise updated on your account.

One Day Exemptions

You can also register for One Day Exemptions for up to two vehicles you are travelling in that day. One day exemptions can be made up to seven days before travelling.

Organisational Blue Badges

Organisations with Blue Badges can also now register their Scottish LEZ Exemption Accounts online. Organisations may register all the Blue Badges they hold on a single account. The number of Blue Badges held by the organisation will entitle them to that number of One Day Exemptions to be active on a single day.

Thanks for the info; I applied online this morning at 10am with all the info, photos etc. I received the approval email back at 12.30 saying we now have exemption. 👍

I wasn't sure Marie & not everyone wants to let on, I am and it's one of the few benefits we get.

My MP has a Facebook page so I gave him the heads up about motorhomes and it being a bit unfair that we are being classed as commercial vehicles when they are a private vehicle regardless of the GVW.

GVW? 🤔

Is this something to do with the weight of the vehicle, i.e. >3.5 tonnes ?

I’ve spotted references (whilst skimming through stuff very quickly) to vehicles >3.5 tonnes being classed as Heavy Goods Vehicles with no allowance for them being Motor Caravans? Is that what you’re referring to?

Yes GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight Marie.

Why does it not come up with Motorcaravan, just Fiat Ducato isn't an accurate description.

It would also help if they listed all towns in the UK that are payable, and why not have the same charge £4.50 difference, and why so much anyway?

Useful info.
Being under 3500kg the above charges apply.
Try to avoid but 1 indiscretion is not too bad.
But you may not have noticed so how long before you are notified.
Especially if you have just started a tour.
Paying extra for a delayed payment is unacceptable !!
Best plan to be an mp and claim on expenses .
Thus we pay for their errors...Yet again
