I have a TT truck satnav with life time updates for maps and live traffic that I am extremely pleased with BUT I can't find a toggle for avoid LEZ charges. Does anyone know of a device that won't divert you using live traffic through those zones that you can tick like "avoid tolls".

I ask cos I am currently in appeal with Bristol after incurring a 100 quid LEZ charge (>3,500kg) when my live traffic took me off the M5 last week as it was totally rammed.

The Bristol liveaboard community is often discussed on here. I wonder how they get on with the charge.

As they don't have permanent addresses in Bristol I can't imagine them being exempt?

In answer to your question though, I know my last Tomtom had an 'Avoid Tolls' setting.

Thanks Robmac but avoid tolls doesn't work I'm afraid possibly cos the charges are vehicle specific. I would ideally like a system that I could leave to automatically reroute like live traffic does and avoid.

Like maybe taking me off the M25 to the outside when it is really congested but NOT the inside where I would incur the charge if you see what I mean.

Sorry to hear that Dick, our neighbour got caught out last week as they only just moved here and didn't realise where the zone started.

To my knowledge there is no GPS guide, even the official map is beyond useless, it's almost like they want to trap you.

Google will possibly be the first to do one, soon hopefully.

Can I ask what you are basing your appeal on or are you basically just asking for mercy.

Unless Bristol perhaps has a vehicle exemption process like Newcastle City Council? :)

In which case the onus is on you as the vehicle owner to inform the council that you have a Motor Caravan so they can add you to their own database of "exempt vehicles".

@r4dent has just successfully done this for his 2015 Bailey with Newcastle City Council and I'm following suite, but I was a bit late and it was after 5pm today when my online application for exemption was submitted, so I'll have to wait and see what their response is... 🤞 ;)

Sorry if this subject has already been discussed and sorted elsewhere, but I haven't been following the ULEZ stuff and only started thinking about it earlier today while pondering our old 2003 diesel Autosleeper...

BUT.... I'm not sure if every council operates a vehicle exemption system for Motor Caravans that are not automatically ULEZ compliant, so maybe you need to check the relevant council websites to see what they're up to in your own areas?

P.S. I don't live in Newcastle, but am assuming my application for exemption for my vehicle to be added to their database will be perfectly valid? Maybe you have to do this for every area you want to travel to? But again, you would need to specifically check with your local councils etc.

BTW, I am making the assumption (always very dangerous!!! :ROFLMAO: ) that we are discussing the use of non-ULEZ compliant Motor Caravans and Campervans here and not just any old commercial van or sundry other vehicle???:cool::cool::cool:

There are 4 classifications as far as I know. Compliant vehicles <3.5tonnes, non compliant <3.5tonnes, compliant vehicles >3.5tonnes and non compliant vehicles >3.5tonnes. Then on top there are exceptions for things like fairs/circuses etc.

Motorhomes and campers are also a separate exemption I think as they are private vehicles, but do need to be registered for each persons local zone, I'm not sure what can be done for entering other zones.

Why does it not come up with Motorcaravan, just Fiat Ducato isn't an accurate description.

It would also help if they listed all towns in the UK that are payable, and why not have the same charge £4.50 difference, and why so much anyway?

The bristol live abord lot possibly don't go in the zone, or once in stay there. And don't give a hoot about the charges lol.

Think yourself lucky Kev. Difference if you are classified as heavy goods can be in the hundreds of pounds.

It really is barking mad Dick, there seems to be zero joined-up thinking at all in England, Wales and Ireland, but Scotland is well on top of the job and it's all in one place.

I wrote to my MP yesterday and hand delivered it so we'll see what he has to say.
