Maps.me

The facts are not as you state. The cutoff for 3050 KG UW is around 4650 KG GVW.
The 3.5T weight limit in France does not appear to apply to camping cars, just goods vehicles. Motorhomes over 3.5T are not treated as HGV. They are restricted to 80 on single carriageways, like cars. To 100 on dual carriageways and to 110 on autoroutes.

Nobody has ever recommended Navigon, have they? I don't know why anyone would buy one!

Yes it has a satnav feature however IMO that is not its main usage/advantage.

  • It is best used on a 10in Tablet where the maps are great and the larger display very useful
  • It is great for looking what to do for the next day. as you can download loads of POIs and easily turn them on or .
  • The search facility is good for example I found a local hardware store in Sicily
  • It has knowledge of toilets and shops
  • Examining potential routes is OK but commonsense is needed some indication is available about the status of a road
  • I find it very good for recording my stopover and other POI
  • Provided you have downloaded the maps you do not need the internet.
  • As I have posted B4 I have a simple TomTom which I use whilst driving..
  • No it has no knowledge of my vehicles size but as others have posted there is no substitute for common sense

Decided to buy the Garmin 760 unit, comes fully loaded and with lifetime updates, [...]
Be wary of the "lifetime updates" promise as at least one manufacturer means "until we declare the item unsupported" rather than "for as long as you own the unit". A friend bought a TomTom at a discount price because it wasn't the current year's model and thought he'd got a good deal as it had "lifetime updates". However, last year it wouldn't update and TomTom had declared its lifetime to be over :(

I bought the Co Pilot you mentioned, I stopped using it as it would stall to often just at a junction.

Yes we noticed this, thought it was possibly the phone internet connection has we tethered the tablet that the co pilot was on, it's just unfortunate that my wife is no good at reading the AA map we also keep on board, where as I can, but unfortunately It seems to also be that I am the designated driver. Might have to swap roles.

Perhaps you will allow me

I use iGo Nextgen on a 10" tablet, and it is much, much better. And yes, I have maps.me installed on it too and I have compared.

However iGo's online search is useless. Due to a licencing issue, online search no longer works in iGo. I generally use Google Maps to search, iGo to plan the route.

My opinion based on my usage and experience !
AND my preferences !

Simply sharing my usage..
See my list of uses !!!
As indeed you are..
BUT Maps.me appears popular
Google maps is good but you need "Tinternet"

If I could only have one map/nav app, I would opt for iGo. But thats not the case, I can have loads, so I do.
I prefer iGo to TomTom, but thats just a preference, and the maps are far more expensive. TomToms a fiver for european maps.
As a map I prefer maps.me if no connection.
Calling one rubbish and another much much better is rather bizarre.

So the BIG FLASH we got on the Dual Carrageway doing 95 will end up in a recycling bin :lol-053: Fingers Crossed ..

No one has mentioned IGO Primo. It works very well on Android and can be found on the Internet for FREE.
You can also add the Truck files which then gives height and width restrictions. It has never taken us down any small roads apart from starting off and arriving. Updated maps can also be found with a bit of searching. I also managed to get a copy of Co-Pilot Truck working on Android with free updates. I prefer the IGO Software but Co-Pilot is useful for finding places like Supermarkets and Filling Stations.
