Sat nav

Halfords phone mount bought and ok...just big enough as only 5in screen. £8

There was a post not too long ago about a good cheap satnav circa £50.
Can somebody point me to it please.
Not a garmin or tomtom or nozatech ?
Haven't you got a smart phone?
Google Maps is free, it's constantly updated in real time, it has an excellent voice controlled navigation system.... oh so much more, as Sandy Toksvig says in that irritating advert!
Why pay for an old fashioned Satnav that goes out of date?
I've been all over Europe using it on my 8 inch tablet, powered by the hotspot on my phone. Before anyone says about the cost of data, let me tell you I have a SIM only contract with Vodafone that gives me UNLIMITED data for 25 quid a month, so it also powers my Roku!

Thanks,
Yes that is an option.
I prefer a satnav whilst driving
1 with lane guidance etc
2 no need for a data connection.

£8 to resurrect my TomTom is money well spent.
Yes smart phone and tethered tablet (10in) for planning, usually maps.me (which does not need a connection after downloading maps).
Poi s on maps.me !
Use google as well.
If the mount is not good for the tomtom I can use it for my phone !

There's a good phone app called Co-pilot, always up to date and various vehicle profiles can be added/edited and stored, Covers the whole of Europe and can be used offline. gives traffic warnings, re-routes etc. There are free or a paid versions, I recommend it.

Thanks that looks good

If you can find a reasonably modern Mio then I'd certainly recommend one especially if you can get one with lifetime map updates still available.
