Isn’t everything connected to motorhomes and caravans overpricedCrickey, that's a lot of dosh for a hand full of decent terminals![]()
Sadly trueIsn’t everything connected to motorhomes and caravans overpriced
Remember when costing the HP Power Supply to include the time element to do the work and then compare the price against the price of a second hand charger (and ignoring how the bone fide charger will also go into a lower voltage float mode whereas the HP supply will have a fixed constant voltage and you have to remember to turn it off and back on as required.Sadly true.
If it was myself I'd have removed the board and fitted a couple of decent connectors onto the cab battery and fridge connections, better still do away with the connectors altogether and wired directly to the board. I guess that sort of work isn't for everyone but it's simple enough with a few appropriate tools.
Funny about you saying that everything MH related is expensive, this evening I've been watching YouTube videos where people have been hacking high powered PC server power supplies to make lithium battery chargers, again very simple indeed with a couple of components and a soldering iron. You can pick up a quality Hewlett Packard power supply for less than a tenner, a very simple mod to boost the output voltage from 12v to 14v and you've got a mains charger capable of over 90A. I dread to think how much a bona fide MH charger of the equivalent power would set you back, considerably more than a tenner I think![]()
Very true David, they are not the same but I don't see the difference as apples and bacon, more like oranges and lemons.Remember when costing the HP Power Supply to include the time element to do the work and then compare the price against the price of a second hand charger (and ignoring how the bone fide charger will also go into a lower voltage float mode whereas the HP supply will have a fixed constant voltage and you have to remember to turn it off and back on as required.
You are getting into TrevSkoda logic where he buys a car for a tenner and runs it for 10 years but ignores how much it cost him in that 10 years. The initial buy price is just one factor (you can buy a house in some italian villages for one euro. doesn't mean you have a home to live in for a euro!)
Not saying it is not a potential good lower cost option, but you have to compare apples and apples and not grapefruit and bacon.
