Sad day for Worthing

I just happened to join Streetlife web site and found out local residents were up in arms about the motorhomes down at Greensward ( Ferring seafront).
I started fighting our corner and writing in defence.
When ever someone put in a criticism one blogger would say yes,yes your right come to the meeting.
What meeting?
That's when I found out that the moaners had approached their local councillor and that he was taking it forward to the joint meeting with the county council.
It was quite by accident that I discovered the meeting was taking place.
Walking the dog down at the sea front ,I spotted the W sticker and guess what Campervananne popped out and gave me a lovely hug.Karen and Basildog appeared also.
I mention my concerns about what was happening locally.
Still fighting my corner on Streetlife I returned and spoke about what was happening to Basildog. He joined Streetlife. I started to feel supported. I was still feeling unwell with Flu like symptons .
I woke up this morning and thought what can I do to help the cause.Thats when I realised they were encouraging moaners to send emails in support of RTO to Steve @ West Sussex

The meeting was very biased and a lot of untrue statements made .
Wild camping was mentioned and a lot about it being illegal to sleep in a vehicle on a highway.
They seem to be more upset at the idea of anyone getting a free holiday than any real nuisances caused to residents as the area is not residential.
France was mentioned in that motorhomes were causing a nuisance so were banned and pushed out of towns to licenced motorhome parking.
Even some local motorhome owners had their say against free camping and how we should be forced to use sites.
As has been said before the poi list is in many ways destroying these spots as the residents had access to the information and were not happy.

I 'have always been anti POI it is well documented for the very reasons you outline, The few people I have met face to face almost without reservation state they keep the best ones quiet and are very selective with whom they share.

We have a situation on this site people can join be spoon fed the info in the hope that they behave in a satisfactory manner, travelling about would suggest the wider community doesnt behave that way therefore little wonder the activity is berated.

All your points on reflection could be coherently argued , the fact that the meeting was short notice to the forum wasnt the best idea of addressing the meeting.

I couldnt send an e mail I saw the meeting to late furthermore, without background information I couldn't write anything meaningful ...saying I don't agree holds no sway. Th eauthorities need to see benefit outweigh any perceived negative.

Perhaps Phil may consider as per my earlier suggestion a board that we can publicise meetings with councils and offer a more constructive and effective protest where applicable

Thank you for attending. Were you up near the front?
If so you spoke well.
Hope I came across ok although my throat rattled.

I am concerned that everything written here appears in Google search Ferring sea front Camping?
Know wonder residents knew about Wildcamping for Motorhome site.
I may have to go back and delete some stuff folks!
What I wrote here I thought it was for access by members only not the general public.
I will have to think hard before posting anything now!

Hard to believe that anyone still thinks you can be active on the WWW and nobody else can see what you write. In this case how could it be assumed that all members of a particular group - ie the council - aren't members of this forum, or that a member of this forum hasn't contacted the council and relayed what is being discussed.

Thanks Tony. I had no idea Google would use my title and put everything written in neat order.
I have had to go back and edit small bits.I live in a close community and really don't want to make enemies.
I am going to open a new thread and see how that goes?

I spotted this last night on here also. No one from the county council had bothered to inform the Motorhome Tourism Organisation of any meeting despite our contact with the County Council. No member of the Motorhome Tourism Organisation had alerted us either.

I agree we need to keep each other informed of any proposal, as soon as possible, in order to arrange a united front.

I contacted the council with this question.
The Motorhome Tourism Organisation is a non profit making group. It aims to promote responsible UK Motorhome Tourism by home and foreign visitors.

I am contacting all parking providers in the UK in order to obtain information to create a database and map of parking areas (including Town, Rural and Park & Ride) which are accessible by drivers of motorhomes. My aim is to provide a resource for the whole country which will enable motorhome drivers to
a) find appropriate facilities easily,
b) whilst at the same time directing them away from areas where problems might be caused by vehicle size.

My last contact with the council stated

Dear Mr Thompson,

Thank you for your email.

This information is not held by West Sussex County Council, the local districts and boroughs manage all of the car parks within West Sussex and so will be better placed to answer your query.

The districts and Boroughs within the area are:

Arun District
Adur and Worthing
Chichester District
Crawley Borough
Horsham District
Mid Sussex District.

Yours sincerely
Sally Neville

Horsham District and Mid Sussex District, replied with information and "No sleeping , cooking or eating" in their TROs. Chichester District acknowledged receipt but didn't reply. The others just ignored the information request.

The officers of these authorities seem to think it is their duty to only disclose the minimum of information in response to a question. If you do not ask the specific question, make a specific request, they will give an answer that will not give you the information you are after. Some will refer you to their website where the information is non specific and often hidden away.

Our best source is our members eyes and ears, together with cooperation.

David once it is scooped up by Google you are unable to edit those comments. You can alter the source, but they have the copy of the original warts and all.

This also applies to websites. You can often find copies of websites that are long out of date if you search.

:lol-053:

Seems like we all have a few we don't mention.

I personally think the residents get fed up when they see a number of MH that stay for days on end. Southwold had a problem on the sea front and the Council put a stop to it. One of the problems was people using the road drains to dump toilet waste. This does not head for the sewerage plant but is discharged into the sea. Why would you want to send rain water to the sewerage plant. Some places just don't want MH no matter how much they spend.

The Councils get agro from residents BECAUSE of the number of MH in certain locations. Problem is they stop them parking by the sea and they just move round the corner. When it gets banned there they move around the next corner etc. etc.

Personally we would rather be on our own or on an inexpensive CL site like the one we found last weekend £5 a night. We paid £1 to park overnight in the Council Car Park ( No Camping ) and A Pub Stop. So £6 for the weekend and a nice meal.
