Hi
I didnt go to the meet at Rutland Water but went up to look the next week, however the lack of anywhere to stop is obvious, I found a stop in a farmers yard in the end for a tenner. but there is a huge opening for a site there for vans .
It is a nice place but only if you can stay.. I could have hidden up until they locked up and stayed quietly in the corner somewhere but think they do a sweep, before locking the gate.
Bit of a downer really perhaps I am not a wild enough camper as I get guilty feeling about it.

The meet was at Lyndon Top, which has a vast camping area , and that's without the couple of other sites in the area . that farmer must have rubbed his hands with glee as he managed to prise £3 more out of you than the proper site would have. There is also a caravan & camping club CS site there (The Paddocks) and another site near The Wheatsheaf pub at Edith Weston.

It`s very easy to find, the entrance is off the Edith Weston to Manton road and signposted to the " Nature Reserve "

Also, why would you want to hide until they have locked up and stay quietly in a corner somewhere ............... so as you don`t have to pay ?

He was presumably thinking in the spirit of this Forum. The clue may be in the name,

I`ve obviously been going about this completely the wrong way.

I didn`t realise that the " spirit of this Forum " was to defraud people out of money when you stay somewhere.

Sounds like he was the one who was being defrauded!

Reckon the O/P was in the P&D Carpark & was Talking 'bout keeping Hidden in there O'Night......(?)

No I wasn't trying to get anything for nothing, I was there the next day in the P and D and we went for a walk around. It just seemed that the place is massive but not a lot of information. I went all over the place trying to get a parking spot but as I am not a CandC member yet they seemed a bit closed towards us unless you book ahead and thet is not what I bought a MH for I do not follow an itinerary That is for organised people.
I arrived in the evening a about 8 and they were about to lock down but I met a gentleman and his wife who knew of the site I went to in the end. I hope that the replies do not start to be troll like, if so then I will not bother with this site again. There are enough " UMMM" I'm telling teacher, types in the mags without getting it here. I have just been on Google Earth and now see the place you are on about, I went past it going towards Edith Weston and note there is a small white sign that is not very noticeable in the dusk. A bit of more obvious tourist information might help or even a bigger site. I was expecting Anglia Water to have got something.

Lyndon Top would not have been closed for you whether you were a member of any Club or not and it is a pity you didn't go there, there is no need to book ahead just turn up and be made welcome, park where you like and leave as late as you want to for £7pn, don't let some of the comments put you off this forum, it is still the best for info and the good helpful members far outweigh the others:dog:

I've used 2 C&CC CL's this week and rung them on the day I wanted to pitch , no problems at all . However CC are a bit snobbish and want you to "book early" not my scene either , I choose a destination for my first stop then have numerous considerations for my next .

The reception I have received from the 2 C&CC CL's have been brilliant

Thanks for that.
I was beginning to wonder what I had signed into. This was my third excursion since I got the van and I have not got any idea of the places you can go. laybys are NOT GOOD as I found out second time out and was forced to stop when knackered. The noise of vehicle rushing past is very tiring even when it was away from the road itself.
One thing that does get my goat is, the jumping down my throat for a supposed misdemeanor of which I am accused and that never happened. I was referring to the PandD when I made my post and what would happen if I was locked in after closing and the gates locked.

Hope You don't think that I was Sniping at You M8.....As I posted; I sussed that You were in the P&D (None of these C/Ps seem to just Lock Us in....That'd be Perfect! There's Usually some Clipboard Trying to Chuck Us Out!!!)
Doubtless There'll be another Meet up @ Lyndon Top at Some Time....Hope You get There!

Rutland Water is a carefully managed environment. The "clipboards" work very hard at improving it , both for the many visitors and the wildlife. Please don't encourage anyone to ruin it. The £7.00 to stay on the official site is a bargain.
