Rotten eggs

The first 10 seconds of water from the bathroom sink tap smells of rotten eggs if it hasn't been used for a few hours.

The kitchen sink and shower don't have this problem and the smell goes away when the tap is run.

Do I need to rip the bathroom apart?

No, but I’d have thought a good dose of bleach down the plug and done the basin overflow might resolve your problem. I can’t imagine the smell is from the water

a common complaint as the water goes down the w/h/b it pushes air back up the built in overflow if sediment is trapped in there that’s where your smell comes from , try putting plug in bowl fill with water till water is going down overflow speed of this will often indicate the problem introduce bleach into the exiting flow & that will often cure the problem

The original post said that first few seconds of water from tap smelt of rotten eggs so how can that be from a drain? We have solar panels and water from a bore hole so no added chemicals in the water ,every few months we have to add a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to our water tank or we have smelly water. If you google this problem there is a huge amount of information available.

I concur with Topmast the OP says that the smell is coming from the tap and not the drain / plug hole so the cheap cola down the drain trick will have no effect.

Louise swore blind the water from the bathroom basin (at home) was smelling. Not possible says I. Fetch the bleach. Smell gone.

I tend to agree with the drain view, the water is disturbing the drain water/air. However I would think this is easily tested by collecting the first few seconds of water in a container without letting any water into the basin. Sniff the water in the container and if no smell pour it into the basin at the same rate it comes out of the tap to see if that causes the smell.

Some motorhomes do not have waste traps so drain smells are almost inevitable, the smells collect in the pipes overnight. Before I had traps I found the smell came out of the shower drains when I used the basin, I guess the new water pushed the stale air out of the other drains.

I would think the water is displacing the air in the drain,the air can only come back up.

If it was smelly water surely it would be smelly from kitchen and shower as well. +1 for plug hole being the source

Would of thought if it had been parked up a while with waste left in it it could be the drain but if drained down and left open it shouldn't smell - Although i cant empty my clean water tank fully always an inch of water left in bottom of tank anyway

This is a new one on me the smelly tap syndrome ,I did have one drain smell but shower and bathroom was ok

When parked level my main fresh water tank will not empty completely either however .................................

At home i have it parked on Milenco Quattro 2 levellers to aid water draining off the roof and this also allows the fresh water tank to drian completely as well

Funny how smells waft around I'd have tried the drain first. Every now and again I hold a hose in the sinks & shower drains seal it best I can with a rag then get hose turned on to flush it thru with pressure. But some people have that smell from a battery when it's failing

I can relate to this seemingly odd phenomenon. I was once touring a hot country by motorbike, I stopped to get a bottle of water from my soft panniers and it smelt of sulphur. It had been close to the exhaust and the fumes had leeched through the plastic bottle.
So wondering what the OP's bathroom sink tap plastic water pipe routes next to? Possibly the exhaust of some appliance or even vehicle?
