Room 101.

I know it's bad on social media for some, kids made to feel so bad, but if it gets so stupid that we can't call each other crap it's gone too far.

Oh yeah lime gree mankinis :D :D :D
Kids have been bullied since the dawn of man. Maybe parents should limit their kids access to tv and social media?

We didn't let our Lou have a mobile until she was 13 and the one and only time we had to sanction her, we took her mobile off her and didn't let her use the pc for a month.
When she started work, we let her keep the first months wages then we charged her rent.
No namby pamby bs in our household has resulted in a responsible, compassionate and reasoning young lady who wants to emulate our parenting onto her baby daughter.

It isn't difficult.

Oi, that's hate speech, I'm reporting you to the Office of Hurty Words.
You fat, one eyed, bear assed twink.
Ral you can handle abuse, you’re used to it :)
Me too, we’re old fogies thick skinned by life’s experience.
Not so young kids who live in the internet, and not through choice.
Or not so those suffering mental illness.
Some of this mental illness due to the modern world.
The young kids now eat and breathe the internet, it’s their world.
And the levels of abuse suffered by these kids goes well beyond the pale.
No one is trying to stop people from having opinions, so long as they are not abusing others.
The act was brought to Parliament in 2022, and passed in 2023.
Not before time.
You may call it woke, I reckon it’s simple reality.

YoungMinds reported online this week that suicide rates for 15-19 year olds are the highest they have been in 30 years. This comes after their urgent call last month to the government for support as the teenage suicide rate had jumped by over a third.

According to data by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), analysed by Young Minds, suicide rates among young people aged 15-19 in England rose by 35 per cent from 2020 to 2021. In 2020, 147 young people aged 15-19 in England took their own lives. This rose to 198 in 2021. This is the highest number in over 30 years.

NHS data also predicts that 2022 will see the highest ever number of referrals to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Figures to date show the number of under 18s needing NHS treatment is 23 per cent higher than at the same point last year. A total of 241,791 young people were referred to the NHS in the first three months of this year - already half the total figure referred in the whole of last year. Many of these young people are still waiting for treatment and appointments.

Emma Thomas, Chief Executive of YoungMinds, said "These numbers paint a shocking picture of the state of young people's mental health in this country. This cannot go on. Government must get a grip of the situation. Young people are struggling to access the support they desperately need, and the dramatic rise in suicides is truly alarming.

We know that professionals, from the NHS to school classrooms, are doing all they can to support the record numbers of young people struggling with their mental health but without government support, they can only offer a sticking plaster.

This is why we are calling for more resources for the NHS, so young people, particularly those in crisis, can access help quickly, and dedicated mental health support in every school. We want ring-fenced funding for schools so they can better support the thousands of young people who are struggling right now."

Bethany Bale, DR UK Policy and Campaigns Officer, added: "Gen Z have consistently faced unprecedented and historic barriers when trying to access and enjoy their independence as they move into adulthood - whether that be a pandemic disrupting their education and training, several economic crises before they've had an opportunity to work, or eco-anxiety as generations above place the responsibility of the future in their hands. Living through all the changes you experience as a teenager and young adult can be traumatic without any additional external barriers - and we know Disabled young people will face more barriers than their peers. Considering all of these pressures, alongside the chronic under funding of the NHS, the alarming trends we see in the deterioration of young people's mental health is unsurprising and that's unacceptable. It's essential that the government finally prioritise the wellbeing of young people by resourcing the necessary support - because these trends can't continue."

Nothing to do with the fact successive governments sold their future then

Restrict internet and mobile access. It is not difficult. Honestly.
Of course, some parents are pathetic individuals who shouldn't be trusted to raise a budgie, let alone a child. In such cases, there isn't much that can be done.
And of course there are cases where no amount of support will make the slightest bit of difference.
I may seem unduly harsh to some but some of the things Izzy has told me from within her line of work with the Court of Protection, well, enough said on that score. 🤬🤬🤬

This act mainly affects those running websites, than those who post on them.
There are already controls on the larger websites, Facebook, TikTok and the like.
This will extend the provisions on small sites like here.
Any punishments will be meted out to the owners, who will be liable.
Phil would face a percentage of his turnover or an £18,000 fine, which ever is greater.
It’s a very well thought out comprehensive act, and was supported by all parties in parliament. Well worth a read Ral.

Correct. Although I agree that it is shocking regarding the mental health of teenagers, I disagree somewhat with the reasons made by Bethany Bale at the end of Fishermans post. It should also be noted that suicide rates are up across the board. Young people are realising that they will never aspire to what older generations could, like owning a home as they struggle with high rents and the cost of living. And it will get worse until Governmennt address the real issues we have.

Not that simple in today’s world Ral.
Parents today have pressures that you and I did not have.
Many excellent parents are worried and struggling with this.
Kids have peer pressure way beyond we had as kids.
The internet has many advantages, like me telling you you’re a right wing walloper, with the morals of a lap dog.
But the disadvantage is how you will now reply :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Oh talking about lap 🐕, is it not time you took Mark for a walk. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Sorry Mark, just could not resist that one. 🙇‍♂️

Parents are looking for solutions, but they need help from governments.
And when the government offers help you rubbish it whilst telling them they are looking for excuses.

Oh bye the way Mark does not like good boy dog biscuits, he prefers proud boy dog biscuits. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Only the state can provide solutions.
Parents need to get back in the factory, their only responsibility being to pay tax. :ROFLMAO:

Remember the old days when you had to be slightly left of Trotsky to be called a limp wristed lefty.
These days any old liberal qualifies, neo libs too.

True dat. I get called a lefty and I used to work for the Tory party!! :ROFLMAO:

Of course it may be fair to say we are all the product of parenting at the times, I was born in 1950 and was subject to strict rules (too effin strict in my case) then came the start of the rebellious sixties and seventies and I want this & that from the kids when that generation had them and they just gave them what they wanted and it got worse from there.
