Roof Lining - Last Stage of Repair...

Hi all.

My girlfriends father crunched the roof of his motorhome under a low bridge this summer.

He has had it repaired externally and has now just to reline the inside.

The motorhome use to be lined with a patterned vinyl (or similar), does any one know where something be purchased? Has any one done this them self?

Any help would be fantastic as I can find very little info on the net.

Hope everyone is not too cold in their motors this winter...

I'm doing the roof of mine in vinyl leatherette. You can purchase it in all manner of patterns and colours at a big craft shop. I got mine on the Roaring Meg Retail park in Stevenage.

The way I am fitting it is making 3mm hardboard roofing panels to fit the roof shapes. Then cut 12mm foam to fit the panel, stretch the leatherette over the panel to hold the foam in place, pulling the leatherette onto the back of the panel and stapling in place there with a staple gun with 6mm staples such as you might use to reupholster a chair etc.

Then the roofing panels are screwed up into place using little screw collars with push on caps to hide the screw head.

There are a number of companies who supply this board in various patterns. Try O`leary motorhomes in Beverley.

It would help if you gave the info about where you live as people cannot really help you much if they do not know where you are.

If it is vinyl try one of the 'boaty' sites. alan dring marine or c&j textiles nr southampton are good. If you are putting the vinyl on to panels then I would use plywood and varnish the back. Fix the vinyl with contact adhesive rather than staples. No matter how tight you get the vinyl, over time it will sag from the panel when on the ceiling. It could also be a 'wallpaper' type of vinyl. Can't remember the name of it now but you buy it by the metre at 1.5m wide. you get it from professional wallpaper suppliers as opposed to high street shops.
