Roof Climbing Advice Needed

Could anyone tell me if it is safe to stand on the roof of my Chausson Flash 03?
(safe for the roof that is - I will try not to fall off :lol-061:) The roof is starting to resemble a vegetable patch so I would like to clean it. I cannot seem to find any info on this and my dealer (Discover Leisure) has gone into administration so no help there either. I have tried reaching with a long brush but that does not do a lot. I feel I need to get up there to do it properly. Any suggestions are most welcome!
 
Hi, I have a Chausson Welcome 55 and whilst I havent been on the roof the previous owner told me was regularly up there to clean. Hope this helps.
 
Hi, personally i wouldn't do it.

If you really want top get up there i would throw an old blanket across and put up a board of some description to spread the load over the full width of the roof. Work from the board then get back on the ladders and slide the blanket/board along to gain access to another section of roof.

(I recently bought a caravan to strip for some bits to convert my panel van, the caravan had a leaky roof so as i had nothing to lose by investigating i went and started pulling down the internal lining and was surprised to see the whole roof is costructed of wooden 'batten' like material of approx section of 25mm x 40mm and the gaps filled only with that white polystyrene stuff.)

The best people to ask are old Arfer & Capt Mainwaring, those two are up on roofs most weekends.

Stand on a step ladder and blow it off with a pressure washer, keeping away from any seams. Or kneel on a piece of 2ft square 9mm ply. Have another piece of ply handy the same size and move around going from one piece to the the other. Move the first piece to the next location when you have your weight on the second piece.

Sky hooks are readily available if you know where to look. Here's a link that I've posted before actually and it has some superb tools. My favourite is the expanding tape measure, useful if you're arguing with a ferry employee about the dimensions of your motorhome.

I don't know the safe load for your particular roof, but if in any doubt I would agree with Firefox. Use a sturdy step-ladder, or rest a ladder section against the van with plenty of padding between the two. Careful use of a jet-wash and long handled brush should do the job. (if using a step-ladder, get someone to hold it steady while jet-washing!)
 
I've stood on the roof of our Chausson, try and stand only above a wall i.e. near the toilet roof vent, that way you know the roof is being supported.
 
Thanks everyone - I am positively encouraged by the amount of replies for this community! To summarize: I should get my 6 year old up there with some sky hooks on a piece of plywood with a brush and a pressure washer. I will enjoy watching him do the job for me! :lol-053:
 
just noticed today my campers roof need washing any 1 want to do it whilst there up there fix the rust it long way up lol and i cant reach it
