The weather's not as warm in Italy as I'd hoped, but it's nice for walking. So we've decided to do some of the Via Francigena., not from Canterbury, only the last 1oo km or so from Viterbo to Rome.
We started this morning in Viterbo,

And walked to Vetralla.

As usual we parked in Vetralla, got the bus to Viterbo and walked back.
Off to Sutri, same again tomorrow.

Day 2 had it all, rudely awakened at 05:30 to find the carpark full of film crew vans.

So it was up, move and a quick breakfast, bus back to Vetralla and we were on our way by 07:30.

It was a lot of walking through oak woods that were surrounded by hectares of hazel trees, owned by Nutella.

We reached Capranica by lunch.

The last leg to Sutri was a wooded valley full of fallen trees and rickety bridges.

The final hurdle was a closed path, so we had to retrace our steps and use a different route.
Finally made it to Sutri,

6 hours walking, 26.8 km.
Shorter walk tomorrow.

A short walk today, from Sutri to Monterosi,, only 13 km
The start was a Roman amphitheatre cut into the rock.

The walk was through mainly open countryside, but very few places to stop.

Heavy rain and sleet stopping play at the moment, hope to resume the walk by lunchtime.

Finally got going, but a bus no show meant we didn't start walking till just after midday.
From snow capped mountains,

and woods with Angels

There was a lot more to see today. Only 45 km to go.

After a hard climb up to Campagnano, we reached the end.

Another exciting day, but wenearly didn't get started.

Once out of the town we were straight into countryside

We heard dogs barking and saw a man standing by some cars, he suddenly started shouting like he'd stood on a wasps nest. Mrs G turned to look, she said a big wild boar shot across the road, followed by a dog. I saw the dog, but not the boar.
After that we carried on walking.

Not far to go.

Finally got to Formello

But there were no buses, even though Google said there was. A young lad who works in the local museum offered us a lift back to Campagnano, we gave him €20 for petrol and a drink.
Finally we got mugged by the local scouts.

I won a horse on their Tombola. Now parked up in La Storta, hope we have better luck with the buses tomorrow.

blue sky and nice scenery.

and a couple of wrong turns meant it took a bit longer to finish.

21km today, the last 8km where agony for Mrs G, a lot of down hill walking with a dodgy knee and blisters.
All roads lead to Rome.
