Rocket fuel stove.

I think the simplest solution to heating a van if it already has a gas supply
for cooking, is one of the Truma heaters, starting with the 1800W and 2000W
models which only require underfloor inlet/exhaust flue installation. No
electricity required (ignition AA battery on some!). Unfortunately it can be
difficult to find a place to position the thing.

These have to be the best off grid idea, as long as you can site it somewhere!

What about a portable gas heater, Amazon sell them for about 20 quid, might need to leave a window open for ventilation though David.

Having read the posts, it might be more suitable to look for a Trauma convection heater. Obviously a second hand unit as you would need one of the older models which don't need 12v to make them work.
Then all you need is gas which you already have.
I know another option to complicate the situation.

Dont run a open flame gas heater in the van, apart from poisioning lots of water will be formed.

Hmm, Would your other option be to sell the van and get a white thing?
Mandie is reluctant to do this, pointing out that several £1000's spent = Many holidays abroad for the same price.
At the mo thinking about Aus and New Zealand. Our winter their summer.
Cheers.

The later and current models only use a negligible 12v power to spark up,
similar to the older models, which instead had a manual push button to spark up,
except in the later and current models there's a 12v fan assistance to distribute
the warm air around more efficiently, which can be switched off, so zero 12v
consumption.

Yep,
As daygoboy said above, Bang on.
I’ve posted this about a year ago.
If anyone wants one they can have mine FOC if they come, Carefully remove (Obviously AFTER they see it working). Cap off & make safe the Gas supply, & leave the Surroundings in a respectable state. I honestly NEVER use it, Hate the blessed thing, Rattles when driving, Even though it got a flue it ‘Feels’ damp after a few hours use (But that’s probably just me) in fact the last time it was fired up was about 2 years ago when I had it tested & the Habitation Check done 🤔.

NZ, some do complain of rattles, but dampness can't be a valid complaint,
the warm air thrown out is just the recirculated very air in the van itself,
the heater is room sealed. The combustion air is taken from the exterior and
expels to the exterior. The warming up improves the RH so the air must get
dryer. This assumes the thing has been installed correctly!!

The offer of a Truma room sealed heater sounds good.
Personally I'd avoid a log burner in a small van because the space it takes.
You do need to be aware of the carbon monoxide risks and provide good ventilation.
