Roaming / tethering / after 15 June

My current three does not permit roaming tethering, which is a pain, after no EU roaming charge date will they allow it? I wonder.
 
Does it allow tethering in the UK? If it does then really you should be allowed to tether abroad as well after the 15th. My vodafone account does allow tethering and its website claims I will be able to use my phone as if I was in the UK after the 11th June. I can find no reference to tethering restrictions though but I think it will be a case of wait and see. Should find out soon enough as I am heading out soon. You can guarantee though they will find a way to restrict usage. Maybe a clause for Tethering or more likely restricted bandwidth. 3 I gather is heavily restricted overseas in terms of bandwidth / speed. Really it should not be any longer as its supposed to be a level playing field across the EU.
 
Tethering is permitted on my 3 contract within UK but instantly blocked when I'm roaming. I have O2 and Three contracts so I'll see what happens as I will be in France on the change over day. Normally I have to pay £2/day to roam on O2 but that'll end at least.

Is it the 11th of June or 15th as getting conflicting info from Vodafone. Important as currently in France and my 2gb roaming allowance is down to 200mb. Unfortunately monthly renewal is the 15th so trying to find out if the 11th is the applicable date.

As a WorldTraveller customer, you don't need to do anything to continue to use your home plan in 60 extra destinations - for £5 a day on top of your monthly plan and only on the days you use your phone. new contracts from three are showing a personal hotspot allowance can't find anything about it yet
 
I honestly thought this thread would be about letting your horses roam free or graze on a tether beside the roadway!! 😉
 
3 are still not allowing tethering abroad and still limiting to 12 gb a month so no change to what I already have with monthly contract. Seen in t & cs a couple of weeks ago. Sorry can't find it again! They've just added more countries that are nothing to do with EU!!!!

I'll still be sticking with 3 for the moment as I have unlimited data for £17 a month - I don't think I'll better that - but will be checking.

A lot of / majority costs from monthly contracts are when people buy their phone through them - sim only is way to go - if Apple buy direct from Apple as they do not tie you to first sim you put in and can swap anytime - sorry if you already know but maybe of some help to others.

From 15 June, the way you use your phone abroad is changing.
We’re making some important changes to Feel At Home, and how you use your Pay Monthly plan abroad. These changes mean you’ll be able to use your plan in even more destinations, at no extra cost and include how you can use Feel at Home in European destinations following a change in the law that covers the rules on roaming in the EU. You might see this referred to in some places as “Roam Like at Home”.

The difference between Roam Like At Home and Feel At Home.
We know this might be a bit confusing, but the basic difference is this:
Roam Like At Home is what the regulatory rules covering roaming in the EU is known as, that requires network providers to charge the same for data, calls and texts across all EU and EEA destinations as they do at home. In the case of some networks, this means cutting their charges considerably.
Feel At Home is a service we’ve had in place for quite some time already, that allows Three customers to use your allowances to call and text the UK and use your data, and it won't cost you a penny more. With the introduction of the Roam Like At Home regulations, we’re expanding our list of Feel At Home destinations to 60 worldwide, to provide even more value for our customers.

How is Feel At Home changing?
From 15 June, Feel At Home will be made up of “Feel At Home in Europe” and “Feel At Home Around the World”. The good news is that as part of your plan, you get to enjoy both of these, allowing you to roam at no extra cost in 60 destinations.

The new destinations.
We’re adding loads of new destinations, just in time for holiday season:
Brazil, Singapore, Aland Islands, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, San Marino.

You’ll also have more freedom to use your phone how you want to, across all of our Feel At Home in Europe destinations. Not only will you be able to call and text back to the UK at no extra cost, but you’ll also be able to call and text other EU/EEA destinations when travelling within any Feel at Home in Europe destination, at no extra cost.

You’ll also have a Fair Use Policy of 12GB of data (which should be more than enough for your holiday Instagramming needs). Any use over this amount, but within your data allowance, will be charged at the following rates:
EU destinations 0.6p/MB
Non-EU EEA destinations (Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland)
0.73p/MB

Any out-of-bundle rates will be charged at our standard 321 rates, so that’s 3p per minute for calls, 2p per text, and 1p per MB of browsing.
To ensure all our customers can benefit from Feel At Home in Europe with roaming at no extra cost, we reserve the right to apply a surcharge in case of abusive use.

In order to help us to detect possible abuse of Feel At Home in Europe, we may monitor your usage and presence. We’ll look at the balance of your roaming and domestic (UK) activity over 120 days: if you spend a majority of your time abroad and consume more abroad than at home over the 120 days, we have the right to add a small surcharge to your usage. This surcharge will be capped at a maximum of 0.73p/MB; 3p/min; and 0.9p/ SMS. Don’t worry – we’ll send you an alert 2 weeks before the surcharge is applied, giving you an opportunity to modify your roaming behaviour to avoid this surcharge.

Monaco.
For any F1 fans, it’s worth noting that Monaco remains a non-Feel At Home destination and you’ll be charged our standard roaming rates for any usage there. For reference, the roaming pricing for Monaco from 15 June will be as follows:
Calling a UK number. 10p per minute.
Calling a Monaco number. 10p per minute.
Texting the UK. 4p per text.
Texting a Monaco number. 4p per text.
Receiving calls from any number. 1p per minute.
Receiving texts from any number. Free.
Using Internet and data. 10p per MB.
Using voicemail. 10p per minute.

Yes I had that text as well and its on their website that roaming charges will be abolished on the 11 June. I am more concerned about any fair usage policy now though as browsing the Vodafone website I came across their T&C's for their "Roam Free" package which under fair usage talks about a two month limit. https://www.vodafone.co.uk/terms-an...ling-abroad/vodafone-global-roaming/index.htm

So I have asked this question on their community forum. Roaming in EU after 11 June fair usage - Community home

Knowing what slippery gits they are I am sure they will twig anyone thats out of the country for more than a month or two which I will be shortly. I am sure I read the EU law somewhere that stated you would have to be out of the country for more than half of the year before any fair usage restrictions would apply.

Will be interesting to see what they come back with.

So since roaming charges have gone my Three contract now allows tethering, which was previously blocked. And working at a usable speed here today in Adge, the south of France.
But may 80 cm sat dish lost signal just north of here.

Sounds interesting, I've got the all you can eat data contract with 3 I was under the impression you still couldn't tether whilst abroad?

Roaming confusion

The email earlier in the thread states you can call any eu country when abroad at no extra cost. Does this mean I can call the Republic of Ireland when I am in France using my inclusive allowance? Also is it definite that tethering when abroad is now allowed? Is it just me or does every change to make mobile phone contracts simpler alway manage to confuse me....

Yes you can call another EU country or local numbers within your call allowance.

Tethering is unclear, and the 3 website seems to contradict itself ...
