Roaming in the EU

Tesco have advised me that they still offer unlimited Euro roaming with their unlimited data SIM card.
I`m with Tesco mobile ( O2 ) and have been for a while, i was under the impression that it was limited to 25GB EU roaming :unsure:

As an aside, Tesco`s ( O2 ) roaming partners are vastly superior to Three`s roaming partners even some are the same.

HFH Usage shall be limited to periodic travelling and to usage that follows reasonable consumer holiday and travel patterns. It is available for customers who are normally resident in the UK. We will monitor your HFH Usage and location over a rolling 4 month period. Where you are found to be in one our HFH destinations and HFH Usage exceeds 2 months during this monitoring period (in comparison to being in the UK or elsewhere), you will have exceeded our fair usage policy. You will be informed that you have exceeded the fair usage policy by text message and from the receipt of this message, you will have two weeks to reduce your HFH Usage. If after 2 weeks your HFH Usage has not been reduced then we will apply a data surcharge for continued HFH Usage of 0.35p/MB. When your HFH Usage pattern changes to under 2 months in a rolling 4 month period, we will remove the surcharge.

From memory, you have to take out a 12- or 24-month contract. I would only need unlimited (or at least 100/250GB) data when touring, so the fixed contract is a killer. I could start juggling a SIM between my home broadband router and my onboard router, but I'd still need a SIM in each for all (home) or most (onboard) of the year, with data allowance configured as required; it's easier and cheaper to stick with Smarty and Réglo Mobile as and when required. Might be different if I was looking at extended use in more than one EU country.
 
I had a real problem last year with a Tesco SIM failing to register in my mobile router even though it registered in my mobile phone. Some helpful soul on here or on another forum provided Tesco's APN settings which sorted the problem. If you have a similar difficulties with any SIM in your mobile router but it is accepted on a mobile phone, with the SIM in your phone go to the phone settings and note the APN details for transfer to your router.
 
This is the one you want for France. Available from E. Leclerc stores (the larger ones generally). Used it for three months in France last summer. We had one each. Cheap as chips and on the SFR network with great coverage.


You will need to give them a French address possibly, Any campsite or just about any address will do and you will need ID (Passport).
I'm pretty sure I'll go for the Reglo, even though I have to buy it in France. Is it easy to cancel when my trip is over? Thanks

Yes its dead easy. I signed up for an online account so I could check my usage and it made topping up very easy but you don't have to. As long as you don't sign up for automatic renewal each month it just dies when you stop renewing each month.

Be aware that the SIM is automatically enabled on date of purchase. There is a €5 charge for the card. You can then pay by card online for subsequent months, ensuring that you do so before expiry of the current month. Ignore any SMS (a few get sent early on) suggesting that you set up automatic payment.
 
One problem I did have with the Reglu, was they kept ringing & texting me, as I don't speak French it was a PITA I replied to the text asking for it to be sent in English which they knew me to be and the same with the phone calls, but I only got French language.
 
Yeah they do text you a lot but I don't remember any phone calls from them. I would just copy and paste the text into google translate if I didn't understand it but as said it was generally just reminders to top up or trying to get you to sign up for DD payments.

Would you expect a UK mobile service provider to text and call a French customer in French?
