Road refresher drinking bowl

We have the plastic variant as well, only downside is the black plastic ring requires a lot of force to pull off and the Velcro needs regular defluffing and I’ve always thought the foam ring around the float might eventually go mouldy but it hasn’t yet!

Ours is used all year round indoors as well

When we first got ours, years ago, I thought it was part of the packaging and threw it away

It's always worked fine. Today will be the first test for the new stainless steel one though.

We've used the stainless steel bowl today in the van. It didn't spill (about ¾ full to the brim). The stainless steel saucer floats well, allowing through about the same amount of water as the traditional Road Refresher.

What I like is that it is made of stainless steel. What I don't like so much is that it doesn't have such a robust anti-spill design as the plastic Road Refresher; as it lacks the clip on rim that holds the saucer below the spill level. That probably means the saucer is slightly larger than it would need to be if there was a rim (more on that below). But, to be fair, although there was plenty of sloshing there was no spillage.

What I really don't like is that in order to get the saucer section out, you need a little hook (supplied) to hook into one of the holes to pull it out. It's not fiddly, but it's something else you need to carry - and find. If the saucer was a few mm smaller and held in by a proper - removable - rim, you could probably tip it upside down and let it fall out.

But that's the trade off for me because I really don't think the plastic is as hygienic and safe. In conclusion, I will keep using it but I will likely also keep looking for a better design.
