rip off site prices

Not sure this is a good idea - the car wash water is often recycled/reused.

I don't think I'd like to wash my car with someone else's washing up water ...

there are many that say you should not dispose of your grey if you want to call it that water untill you get home ,its only washing water ok there may be some food debis in it but where do you dispose of it when you get home ,down the sewer . so if its ok to do it at home why not when you are out . also i cannot see any problem emptying your tank on grass after all the only thing you have added to the water you washed in is soap . just like washing your car at home where does the soapy water go ,down the drain. whats the difference car wash water or your waste water from your van , when we full timed it was very rare that our grey water tank drain tap was closed, unless we went on a carpark

Got a good tip on another forum.

Put several drainage holes in the bottom of a carrier bag, fill it with grass, tie it on your grey water nozzle leave tap open. Waste water will be filtered through the grass and cleanish water will soak away. leaving sludge etc in bag. tie up bag and dispose of in waste bin.

Last year we stayed on a 5 van site in Wales and the very nice, well educated man that ran the site asked us to empty our grey tank before we left at the base of the saplings he had planted. It was sandy soil so very well drained. The grey water kept the young trees alive in drought conditions and the phosphates kept them healthy. In a hose pipe ban we are encouraged to use bath, washing machine and dish washing water to either flush the loo with or water the garden. Therefore if you are not stupid enough to intentionally dump your cabbage water in the middle of a car park, leisure park or childrens play area, whats the problem?

o no....we are planning 10 days starting on the 8th this month in cornwall and devon, them prices are shocking.... i thought the site prices went down in september, as the kids go back to school....

They told us it was because it was still high season and they are a 5 star site with there own bay! I dont care about the bay, we couldnt see it from the pitch they offered us as it was in a ditch surrounded by caravans!
Look for the little sites or like the one we stayed on a farmers field, handwriten sign on the gate "Camping" £7 for the night.
lots of good carparks which let you overnight for a small charge too.

A big thank you

Hi John,
Yes a cassette can be emptied into a public loo and it doesn't do any harm if it contains toilet chemicals either. I just pick a quiet time to do it discreetly so as not to alarm any members of the public that may not understand what I am doing. You can use some of your grey water to rinse the cassette through too.
As for the rest of the grey water, we have used car wash bays at garages before now. If you're using the garage to diesel up and fill with fresh, you could dispose of your grey water at the same time.
Hope you enjoy your UK wilding :have fun:
Jim

Thank you Jim for the advice and the other members who have commented. Much appreciated. I am sure we will love your country. Can't wait

may be a bit of topic, but just a memory of the time we lived in our van . there was a garage near where we used to stay when we were in bridgend which we did quite often . we had 3 places we used to stay one was the leasure center in bridgend another was a laybie on the science park and another tucked in amongst some trees near ogmore by sea , anyway this garage sold bottled gas milk usual things and they had a water machine with the air pump usual set up . we ended up getting to know the staff quite well as i baught my gas from them and fuel when i need it but i used that place for water quite often , also ended up using there loos to empty the toilet cassete . anyway i went in today to refuel my car after visiting our old haunts when we had the van anyway one of the guys behind the counter recognised me . he asked dident you used to come in here with that bedford camper van you lived in about a year or so back , where did you go and did i still have the van . told him no i sold it baught a car a mercedes that i get three times the mpg out of ,have a brand new one bed appartment we live in now. but i would gladly swap it all for my old van back and living in it again . when we had the van we used to swim in the sea most days even if it was raining, walk miles along the coast line down here . but now dont do any of that . so i suppose life was richer then as opposed to now that is normal to many folks , and boring .

hoping to get another van mabey in a year or so too many things on at the moment .

I stopped using that Blue stuff in the Toilet after reading (I think on here) that some use washing liquid / powder. Empty it in any Toilet I can find, with out making a mess.

Grey water goes down the street drain, I have a "Hose" pipe fitting so it doesn't run all over the place.

Having just come back from France I can vouch that while Motorhoming is really easy it is not a cheap place to go to - The exchange rate is the real Killer.

The French Camp sites are just as expensive, ranging from 20 Euros to 60 Euros - we stayed on a Aires for the whole trip

If you must use sites for your camping why not join the Camping and Caravan club and use Temporary Holiday Sites , D,A Meets and CL sites much cheaper, well run ,friendly people and in great locations, the rule for D,A, { district association ] meets is dispose of waste water in the nearby hedge, SIMPLES.
