It is with great sadness that I share this news.

Today, I’ve been informed that Nigel—known to many of us as N Brown—passed away in hospital last night.

My thoughts are with Eileen and his family.

For the past 15 years, he has entertained, educated, and inspired this community. With over 23,000 posts to his name, he wasn’t just a member—he was one of the people who helped shape this place into what it is today.

Personally, I will miss his amazing humour. He had a way of lifting a thread, of bringing a smile exactly when it was needed, and that’s something you simply can’t replace.

His final text post summed him up perfectly:

“the towels at the hotel we used last night were so soft and fluffy i could hardly close my suitcase”

Even at the end, still making us smile.

He is a great loss to us all.

I will share more information as and when I have it.

In the meantime, if you have any stories, memories, or photos of Nigel, please do share them below. It would be a fitting way for us all to remember him.

I was devastated to hear this.

Without doubt the funniest man on the forum and a very clever man with a huge knowledge of the English language as well as being a genius with the woodwork. I visited Nigel and Eileen at home and met them many times at meets and he never failed to make me laugh. He also had one of the most interesting lives that most of us could only imagine. The forum won't be the same without Nigel.

Our thoughts are with Eileen and the family at this sad time.

It’s the saddest news I have read on this forum over the years, I have over the years parked in their orchard eaten his fabulous pies and his most famous lemon drizzle cake there was and is always a warm welcome and a good laugh round the fire at the bottom of their garden his advice, banter and sense of humour can never be replaced it’s a great loss to this community sending love and hugs Eileen the wonderful lady behind the legend.

So sorry to hear this news Chris phoned me this morning My thought go out to Eileen Nigels joke partner A man of many talents and jokes will be missed

R-I-P Mr Nigel Brown
A sad day will be missed by the world

P/S A sidenote any onee want old mobile phones as used to pass m ine on to Nigel well they where newer than the last one he had

He was always an inspiration, setting the tone for most of this forum.
His advice during our early years in Portugal, was most wise and valuable.

Very nearly met him, over here, but he was hijacked by one of his Portuguese grandchildren graduating from University and we had to go in the opposite direction.
We hope there are no circular saws in Heaven.

Was just talking to another member about the sad news of mr broon and was reflecting on his wood working skills and I cannot find the tumble block table he made as usual stunning
I did find this one from 2018 I think ,Rob couldn't see it properly as the cloth was in the way
This is a great loss to us all his Wit humour and skills you are missed already

The above posts say it all, a great loss.
Nigel was a good friend and a wealth of information and help on the forum.
We will miss our chats over a brew and a slice of his latest cake.
Over the last few years Nigel suffered several health issues but still kept his sharp sense of humour.
Thoughts are with Eileen and family

Shocked and saddened by this news.
Never actually met Nigel but we did get an invite to stop over next time we visited Bristol, this was after posting about the trouble we had finding a spot to stay within the city last year.
A very talented woodworker, bi-linguist, great comedian and all round knowledgeable guy.

Always sad when one of the old guard passes on by.
Condolences to his family.
RIP Nigel
