Ridge Monkey Sandwich Toaster - Old vs New?

The new version doesn’t only have removable handles, both skillets separate so if you wanted you can have two open skillets on different burners. The old one stays attacked til you break it 👍

Ah, I was wondering about separating the halves on the older version. Thanks for confirming.

Any sign that the removable handles may break?

Looking at Youtube there are oodles of recipes on there.

I'm thinking more in terms of those and an easier/more convenient way of cooking meals in the MH if we are unable to take some home cooked stuff when we visit the EU, specifically in winter when its less convenient to BBQ outside.

I'm not too worried about space as it's for my van. Can your version be split in two at the hinges?

My version doesn't split at the hinges.

That's why the new version appeals to me because as well as being easier to stow, as somebody else said it can be used as 2 separate pans.

It looks interesting. If nothing else our grill in the MH is so pathetic we have given up using it even for toast!

Can anyone tell me the difference between this model...

and this...

I emailed Ridge Monkey on this and they replied...

The classic deep fill sandwich toaster does not split in 2 pieces and the handles do not remove.

I just did the same :)

Amazon cheaper than Ebay in this instance too

I tried out the Ridge Monkey while away during the week. It works really well as 2 pans, not actually tried it as a sandwich toaster yet.. One problem was that the button to release the handle fell off from one of the handles. I found it & pushed it back in where it's stayed put. I mentioned this to the suppliers & they say they'll send me some new handles. I get the impression that I'm not the first one to have this happen.

Just been looking at getting a RidgeMonkey Toaster thingy and see that there are 2 versions on sale. From what I can tell, the older one has handles that can't be removed and the handles are held together via a loop at the end. The newer version has removable handles & a magnetic catch to hold them together. From what I can see, that's about the main differences so I'm wondering if the new one is worth the extra fiver, or maybe there's also an alternative for even less?

Any thoughts much appreciated

I forgot to mention.. get the 'XL' version, it's the same size as a decent slice of bread.

I did toad in the hole with our XL the other night this picture was about half way through
