Ridge Monkey Sandwich Toaster - Old vs New?

Just been looking at getting a RidgeMonkey Toaster thingy and see that there are 2 versions on sale. From what I can tell, the older one has handles that can't be removed and the handles are held together via a loop at the end. The newer version has removable handles & a magnetic catch to hold them together. From what I can see, that's about the main differences so I'm wondering if the new one is worth the extra fiver, or maybe there's also an alternative for even less?

Any thoughts much appreciated

I have the older deep fill version which is great.

I will probably buy the new one though as it packs down smaller and so would be ideal for motorcycle camping.

I'm not too worried about space as it's for my van. Can your version be split in two at the hinges?

I had the cheap ridge monkey looky likey and when you cooked in it and turned it over any liquid leaked out you still get a small amount of leakage from a ridge monkey but nothing on the scale of the cheap go outdoors version I’m a firm believer in buy cheap buy twice.
I might add the cheap version was a present from a none camper.

I think I would go for the removable handle...must make cleaning it a bit easier as well as smaller to store. If only a fiver extra.

Bit lost is me.

I just looked at the video on their website and it doesn't actually show them using one as a sandwich toaster...rather they use them as frying pans.

From the name I guess they can be used as a sandwich toaster but how?

Probably the better way of describing these are as a double skillet ? Hob top oven ? Handy bit of kit, whatever. Even better if you don't buy the one I've got

'We' often do toast in ours. Put 2 slices in, toast one side, turn the monkey over, toast t'other side. Then put the 2 toasted sides together and repeat. (Took me longer to write that than it takes my chef to do it )

With a little practice i managed to make bread and cake on top stove, but not at the same time

I have the XL with the removable handles and I love it. I like how you can make things like pies/pasties and pizzas that you can't normally make on a stove top, but you can make anything from a full english to a traditional meat, veg and potatoes meal. Some great videos on youtube if you run out of ideas. It's rare that we don't use it everyday - even it is only for making toast,

We have 2 and love em, as said above, they are wonderful. Ours are the previous version with a set of tools and we are actually using them in the house during lockdown.

It looks interesting. If nothing else our grill in the MH is so pathetic we have given up using it even for toast!

Can anyone tell me the difference between this model...

and this...

Thinking of one of these for
1 toasted sandwiches...obviously Ok.
2 warming up ready food sausage rolls cornish pasties etc.
For this one without too much shaping best ?
3 for cooking raw pastry & Bread products maybe even frozen.
We have a small oven but rarely use it apart from 2 and 3 abovei.

It appears the ridge monkey will do all 3 either...
Inhouse on gas.
Outside on cadac directly on gas.
Outside on a small camp-fire..
Comments appreciated.
Anyone got the Kenwood one ?
