Reversing Camera - loving it!

Hi ya,
Given your comments, what do you think about this, 2*IR Reverse Camera + 7" LCD Monitor Car Rear View Kit for Bus Truck | eBay would this be a reasonable set up? And a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Price is reasonable (free p&P) cable length is good & you are getting the whole lot from one source so easy to moan if summat is wrong.

Think about where you will mount the screen, 7" is big enough to watch DVD's & that could be a useful extra, but it could obscure your visibility. It is meant to stand on the dash, but could hang from the roof in the centre of the cab (in front of the useless mirror?)

The two cameras are the same & designed for roof mounting (out of reach of the scrotes), but no reason why one can't look straight astern (it will need to tilt down slightly so as not to miss the clots less than a car length behind) & the other almost straight down for tight reversing. At 120deg I suspect that the view astern will be less clear than the picture shown on the monitor as it is a pretty wide angle & I think that the pic used on the monitor has been taken on a standard lens camera.

But, yes I wouldn't worry about buying & installing those.

Weirdly that's the exact system albeit with a longer cable and another camera from the same seller I used!

Better price too grrrr!

You need a positive and a negative at the back for the camera, I took mine by scotchlocking to the reverse light circuit.

At the front 3 wires, positive and negative again and a trigger that you old again connect to the reverse light circuit, I put mine to a switch for easiness. Plus the plugs to connect them together, mine is in a lwb renault master and 8m was ample.

Was easy for me, hardest part running the wiring internally, you could run it externally underneath if need be I guess.

Just to add to what Smaug said, yes it can be used for DVD playback but only if obscured from drivers view and it only has the 2 inputs so would mean swapping cables, it also has no sound capabilitys.

To use as a rear view mirror it must be wired from the ignition, maybe the "looking down" camera could be linked to the reversing light, it may be possible to set that up as the dominant circuit on a 2 camera set up, so that normal driving, no power to "down camera" so Rear camera works. Select reverse & down camera powers up & screen automatically switches to the "dominant" circuit, but you can still overide & switch to & fro manually.

I don't know how that particular monitor works, but you may be able to read a manual on line that tells you.

Good point, well made.

Thanks Guys

Thanks to you both Smaug & Marcs for your advice and explanations, looks like that's the one for me.

I had an old lcd 7" 12v telly given me,so bought a camera from Maplins for less than 30 quid with wires,i found it easy to mount on the back of the sun visor and put a permanent feed to it,with another switch,in case I think standby is taking too much battery power.so I put it in reverse, flip down the visor ,flick the telly on,and that's it . add a camera to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-7-inc...cessories_Safety_Security&hash=item35c678ae3c

actually forget all that, unless you already have a telly, that one for £56 with 2 cameras and 20m cable looks great !

You do have the option to fit it in the sun visor too as it (or at least mine did) comes with the necessary mounting for fitting it in a headrest, no reason why you couldn't put that in a visor instead.
