Reversing Camera - loving it!

After owning one for nearly a year, I finally got my camera fitted.

Arriving back home afterwards in the dark and having to parallel park ...... it was a synch! The space was just big enough for my van and I parked it with no problem this time, and not having to keep jumping up to check.

I am throughly delighted with it, and it's going to make life a hell of a lot easier :cool1:

I fitted mine the other day too, they are great :)

Read somewhere about possible cheaper insurance with one too?

Oh that's interesting, I'll remember to check that out at renewal.
I'm more used to hearing things like insurance companies considering it a modification and charging extra! :scared:
LOL

My first Motor Home didn’t have one, my second did, with a lovely big colour screen that you attach to the courtesy mirror, my latest MH has one but not as big a screen but still colour. Would like the camera moving to the top of the van unlike where it is now where the number plate is situated , easy for anyone at the moment with a screw driver and a pair of pliers to pinch. Thought of moving it myself but can’t see how I can get the wires up to the top of the van from the inside. Have seen the same model van with a camera up there though……wasn’t aware of the insurance deal…

Couldn't do with out it (well I could and did, but what a difference it made)

Mines connected wireless'ly to the GPS mounted on the rear view mirror took the power from the interior light cabling

Fitted mine on the number plate as it was difficult to run cabling to top and they can look ugly. Mine has 3-2-1 ft markers that come on the screen, great for reversing up close to the trailer, but do get VERY worried looks from car owners when I reverse back towards their pride and joy!!!

Having no rear window, we have 2 which run through a box which switches inputs. The screen fits where the rear view mirror normally goes. We also have 4 sensors front and rear which have digital readouts, currently £19 a set in Maplin.

Yes I find my reversing camera indispensable, so much so that I examined my wiring, bought a set of cable splitters and was able to install a second camera on the bottom bar of my Fiamma bike rack which I use in place of a rear view mirror. So now I can use the lower level camera to give me a long view behind me, it also picks up vehicles coming into my blind spots on either side of the vehicle. The bikes sit above it so the view is unobstructed.

The original camera is mounted high and points sharply down which is good for checking the bikes and reversing. The monitor I have already had dual inputs but had not been wired for them by the installer, it was simple to connect it up and switching views is the press of one button.

if I upgrade at any time I may look at a quad display monitor and put side cameras to supplement the wing mirrors!

Yes, that would be nice, I considered them for angled junctions where you can't see the oncominhg traffic, but they would have to be normal or telefoto camera cos the wide angle cameras soon lose definition & probably at only about 50-100mtrs from the lens.

At the moment I rely on the good lady waking up & poking her head out of the window, but it can be difficult/ uncomfortable for her to do that in a hurry. Especially if she has to remember to wind the window down first . . .

i fitted one.... i thought if i dont hit nowt its paid for its self already ...mine has no off switch just stand by so ive installed a switch in the wiring to so it gets no power at all when it parked at home i blamed that for the van having flat battery when the van was idle for a few weeks must still draw a bit of power on standby.... trouble is when i power it up ive to mirror the view turn the volume down and its good to go kinda good when we are wilding sometimes put a bit of bait down underneath the camera and see if any wildlife come to feast ....also canny to see if anyones movin about.......it dont work to well in town when a bit of hoop walks by tho wrong angle pmsl
sorry ladies fella talk.... cover yer ears eyes whatever
tell ya what would be cooler a camper van uav ....mega

Mine had a Waeco camera fitted which was pretty useless, I bought a twin camera from the NEC for about £120 for the camera & 7" monitor. I wired the camera's through a 3 way switch (on-off-on) with a power source from the ignition circuit & another from the leisure batteries, this means I can have it come on when driving, I can turn it off as sometimes it can be distracting & I'm not interested in whats behind, I can also turn it on without the ignition is on if I want to check outside for any reason. The cameras are different angles, the rear view one pointing backwards gives a good view of vehicles behind, the reversing camera pointing downwards is a wider angle showing anything right behind & is great for getting close to anything without hitting it.

Help

Hi ya,
Anybody point me in the right direction and/or recommend a reverse camera kit please.

FWIW, I just got the cheapest set up I could off e-bay & I am well chuffed with it. The 3.5" monitor screen is a little small & I might go for a 7" if I did it again, but the 3.5" is perfectly acceptable. I actually got a seperate camera & monitor as that was the cheapest way to do it.

I chose to avoid the wireless ones as some said they were susceptible to interference & then the mice ate me wires!!! (bastids!) but it was easily fixed. I also chose a rear facing camera to act as a rear view mirror, but downward pointing roof top ones are better for reversing right up to stuff. Some monitors take 2 inputs (switchable) so you can have both a reversing & a rear view & switch between them. Make sure you have a long enough cable & that the camera & monitor are compatible (preferably PAL rather than the US NTSC system). It shouldn't cost more than 50 quid for a decent system & I got a 40 quid insurance discount!

I'll be stealing that 3 way switch idea, genius :)

I fitted one on my old status aerial mast which was redundant (as use sat tv) now have 360% view when parked also my wifi aerial is there. And reversing sensors got me a insurance discount

Not wishing to slate someone's post or a uk business but I got the exact same camera and screen advertised on this page for almost £140 for £52.99 delivered on eBay off another uk business seller.

Hi ya,
Given your comments, what do you think about this, 2*IR Reverse Camera + 7" LCD Monitor Car Rear View Kit for Bus Truck | eBay would this be a reasonable set up? And a reasonable price?

Thanks,
