Yep, that would indeed be better Kev, especially one with a sleeper cab so you could still have the crawl through for extra accommodation.

Not too many 7.5t with 440 hp though (I know he said 450, but we won't argue over 10hp)

Now a proper job would have been on a 770 hp V8 Scania, I'm in.

Mine was a iveco 59 12 chassis cab with a alloy box on the back turned into a library bus but withdrew from service after 5 years, only 54 th kilometers on the clock.

Economy is not bad at just under 16MPG (converted from his 18L number) . A 7.5t van would be what? 18MPG or something?

Driving hard mine will drop to 15mpg, driving at 55mph in the middle of rev counter green band i have hit 25/28 to the gallon, but when i got her she was under geared, so a diff change from 8/41 to 11/43 which dropped a 1000rpm, she could still go more if i could find a axle/diff unit.

More like 22/24 with a light load on a newish truck, I used to drive one for one of my customers, to cover for sickness and holidays, much nicer to drive than any MoHo I've driven, more comfortable, better brakes, better view of the road.

I used to drive one doing part time vehicle recovery subcontracting for the AA and RAC Kev. I loved it for the reasons you state and I could use the rear seats as a comfortable sleeper cab for longer jobs.

I did see some horrible sights attending accidents though.

Do like the idea of a 7.5 tonne truck as a base, but they are getting wider and wider too.

Mates 70.180 Daily zips along quite nicely, that doesn't mean it can keep up with a Sprinter though.

Cab wise more of a van than a 7.5 tonne truck though.

We were going to buy one, but parking was an issue so we ended up with the 07 Relay. We tested 6 or 7 fridge vans, and we intended to keep the fridge unit in for the occasional hot day, as they are quite controllable, and some will even work as a heater. I even drew some plans.
