I turn 70 in September whilst I am away in France. I want to retain my C1 and possibly up plate the van.
Can you apply to DVLA and have the medical to do this before you turn 70? I would need my new licence before travelling overseas.

This is good information. My licence will be due for it's 10 year renewal, just 2 months before my 70th birthday. I was "looking forward" to renewing it then renewing it again 2 months later. I now have a glimmer of hope the 2 events can be combined into one.

Be aware that your new licence runs from the date of issue. I applied for mine 2 months early (at 70) and got it in September instead of November. So I applied in September for the next one (73) and am still waiting for that! So, my next one (at 76) will be June (if I get this one). Once you've applied you are ok for 12 months, don't know what happens after that! I keep ringing the DVLA and they say it's going through ok!

Ooh er, that sounds dodgy. You might be OK in UK for 12 months once you've applied but wouldn't fancy arguing the toss with foreign plod when I can't produce my licence.

I think the medical should be no more than 4 months from application.
The application I think should not be more than 56 days before renewal date.
If you can get the D2 and D4 forms it will tell you on there.
