Doesn't start the van though ?

Mine?
Yes it starts van, in fact as we waited for (what I call) magic machine to code the key (which took some time) I offered my card for payment and it was refused until the machine had confirmed coding. I should note that we have two Timpsons one in town centre and other at Sainsbury's, the town centre branch cut the locker gate and house keys, but I was directed to take van to the Sainbury's branch for ignition key. I'm not sure if this was because of availability of machine or due to easier parking nearby as part of the process is to hold capsule next to original key and turn the ignition on and off several times.

Carol not every Timpsons can do Ignition keys just ask at your nearest branch which store does them I have had spare keys for 3 different vans each time they have been most helpful.

Timpsons couldn't do mine.

Just to sum up,the guy turned up at the storage site,as he does so,phone call to say the originals had been found.

The bloke took it pretty well, but i paid him a call out which he wasnt going to ask for ,so it was not all bad. He's a really nice bloke and would recommend him in a heartbeat.Contacted him 8pm,he arranged to meet us at 9.30 next day.His details below.

CAR KEYS BLACKPOOL :07956 631491 carkeysblackpool.co.uk and his name is Graham.

Lol,found the spare...incidentally,spoke to my nearest Fiat dealership last night, parts dept closed but guy in sales reckoned £400 plus from them and dont know if that was inclusive of VAT,key comes coded but you are charged another £80 or so for them to pair it to the ECU.Price gouging at its finest

I have my main key/fob but reading this I think I may just get a spare made up to be safe :)
glad it all worked out for you in the end...

@ Carol , Theres a shop near me that will fit a chip and clone a new key for you for about £50 -£60 , I supplied my own blank which I'd had cut and he only charged me £35 , if it's any help to you , Bradford is only a short drive away .

Mine is a 2002 Ducato and I have a red key

Might be time spent in construction .
Mine is 2005 base vehicle but 2007 first registration.
I also had a seat Ibiza with VW Golf GTI front brakes. They wont stop production line, manufacturers will put on whatever's at hand.
Ford was notorious for this too.

I had a similar quote from Fiat for replacement manual key, this caused some online discussions on OAL forum, some have been told by Fiat that £400 was for remote key, and manual key should be about £125 (iirc). I was given some numbers of auto locksmiths most at time didn't want to know about my model Fiat as the immobilizer had just been updated and they couldn't guarantee a result, there was one on south coast who had just replaced a full set of locks and keys on the similar Boxer for £350, but he didn't do our area. Gf asked at Timpson's and they said bring it in and they would give it a go, but the couldn't promise it would work, but it did.

My previous van was registered 2001 but the base vehical was built in 1998 so I agree with you there but my present van was built in 2001, (I have checked) red keys were issued until the facelift model in 2002 when they fitted a dignostic port (OBD) behind a cover on the dashboard, this was used instead of the red key so it was no longer issued.
Seat Ibiza and VW Golfs would have had to be built in the same factory for them to use the brakes if it was 'whatevers at hand' or they would not have access to them, they were both built in the same factory in Slovakia so possible, VW Passats were built in the same factory as Seats Ibizas in Barcelona so the Passat could share the same brake as a Golf

Spot on re model change and keys, and interesting to find out an aftermarket solution. As I suggested earlier, at one stage only the dealer network could provide spare keys and it was eye wateringly expensive. (At one stage people scrapping cars eg older puntos. replacing keys and ecus more than the car was worth)

Fiat, Peugeout and the Citroen vans were all built in Seval , so there are a lot of generic similarities. Citroen C1 and the Toyota Aygo built in the same factory in the Czech republic. Mazda 2 in a Ford plant in Spain etc.(didn't we know it !!)

Re sharing parts, Fiat at one point claimed 1 in 6 vehicles in the world carried parts attributable to a Fiat company.

Lost spare key ...

We'd been religious ... James has main key and I carry the spare. But where the hell had I put it? It'll turn up. No. A though search of all rucksacks, bags and pockets. No. Aha ... last time we were at the Aged P's I swapped over handbags. Two bags in their attic to be searched, but I had to wait a couple, of weeks till the Aged Ps were home again ... Joy ... found in a side a pocket. Just hope we don't mislay the main set ... as not down south again until 3rd July. Just hope we don't tempt a negative fate! What's the bet?!

Chip on the key just disables the fuel pump solenoid.
There are cheaper solutions that bypass this.
You will just get a key code light constantly illuminated on the dashboard.
