Hello, after trolling many sites looking for advice, it seems all I have to do is "remove the hob, take out the 4 screws inside the fridge and then slide it out" .......

........ but how the ******* hell do you get the hob off ?? When you remove the hob screws, there doesn't seem enough play in it to lift it up to remove pipes etc and I'm afraid of snapping something if I force it!

If I push the fridge from the rear vent, it moves at the bottom, but the top seems to have something else holding it in, hence removing the hob to have a look.

It's 1996 Hymer B584, RM4401 fridge and Smev 3 ring hob.

is the hob screwed down from the top ? then all that's holding it is the gas pipe, which the fitter usually leaves long and flexible, and an ignition wire if it has one ,it could also have a bead of clear silicone holding it down. can you remove the upper vent and see any clearer ?

Thanks for that, but ..

... just spoken with he who is in the motorhome cussing like an expert! Apparently he can lift the hob up enough to access the bolts that hold the pipe on, but he couldn't budge them and rather than break something he put that and the fridge back together and has decided to call someone in!

My obviously naive query as to whether WD40 might help was met with an unprintable reply :raofl:

he'll need to use 2 spanners for that, and it's bound to be stiff, but once the joint starts to move,it's easy enough. wd40 wouldn't help i'm afraid, just a bit of oomph ! give it another go with 2 5/8'' spanners

like you, I thought WD40 solved everything:rolleyes:

Thanks. I persuaded him to have another go at it, with the spanners you mention and .... he bent the gas pipe ....... which meant he couldn't put the hob back in... so he had to pad it all and drive round to a friend who is a plummer to fix it!!!!!

Tonight he is going to attempt the fridge again ... thank goodness I will be out at a meeting ;)

You have to lift one side to get easier access to the pipe, once you have removed the hob there is an aluminium plate screwed to the rear wall panel and the top of the fridge, it is to seal it from the outside but that is why he cannot slide it forward, the gas pipe for the fridge is accessed from the top vent so you will have to remove that as well, I photographed all the electrical connections on the top of the fridge so I could easily refit.

I recently removed my entire sink/hob unit from our Hymer B534 (1992).... This was to re-seal the burners which have identical gaskets either side of the actual sink/hob. I had all sorts of fun but found that after removing:

  • All the wood screws
  • I had to get in the cupboard and disconnect the water pipe to the tap.
  • Also the actual burner tops need removing because the actual pipery from the control knobs is fixed by the front panel (which stays in place when removing the sink/hob unit.

I actually found this thread while looking to see how to remove the fridge as mine isn't cooling on gas (fine on 12v and 230vAC). I guess I'm half way there!
