Removing 2002 Hymer B584 Bathroom Tap

Last year I replaced the Reich unit in my bathroom tap and "cured" the leaky tap. However, I now find the tap is leaking again and, as the spout is cracked, I have decided to replace the tap.

I have removed the wooden shelving and with the help of a mobile phone camera, can see a largish nut underneath the tap which I have managed to unscrew with my hand.

The nut won't come off far enough due to the jubilee clips on the supply pipes. The tap will only lift by about half an inch.

There is no way to get to undo the supply pipes. You cannot get your hands in, let alone hold a screwdriver.

What am I missing? Do I have to dismantle the shower door and remove the tap and shower fittings in the shower cubicle?

I have Googled and everything but can't find anything relevant.

You can buy just the spout on its own from leisure Shop Direct. I did that a few years ago when my Reich kitchen tap spout cracked.

The fault originally was a cracked spout which I 'mended' with glue. However, it has started leaking lower down even with the spout off, where the tap joins the basin, so I assume the tap is bu99ered. I'm off to France in a few weeks and need it working faultlessly by then.

I just last week removed the Reich tap in my Hymer C544 sink to fix the microswitch. Under my sink it is tight but I used a flexible link from my 1/4" socket set with appropriate socket to loosen the hose clamps. I couldn't really see what I was doing so had to work by feel. I was then able to pull off the pipes (cracking my knuckles in the process). Of course, you may have even less room :rolleyes2: In these situations I always remind myself that someone put it together so there must be a way :lol-053:

Hi Chris. Couldn't the microswitch be removed from a Reich tap without removing the tap?

I contacted Hambilton's yesterday as I bought a kitchen tap from them a couple of years ago, but they suggested I ring a Hymer dealer quoting chassis no. and ask them for part number and how to fit tap. They no longer supply taps as too many other people do!

I have re-screwed up my tap as I cannot see how it can possibly be removed without first removing the sink. There is no way to undo the jubilee fasteners. If I could unscrew pipes, I don't see how they could be refitted. So I have reassembled everything tighter and switched pump on to see if it still leaks.

Lo and behold, now the pump doesn't work. So I lift up floor and take pump out. Guess what? There is a bit of gravel jamming the propeller. Removed it and reassembled and still doesn't work. Ordered a new one (£42). When it jammed, shouldn't fuse have blown? It hadn't.

Three or four days wait now for delivery.

It's been a hell of a costly month: Smev thermocouple and fridge latch in camper (£50-ish), Karcher pressure washer went kaput (£70 repair), then my lawnmower won't start (£130 repair, house alarm keeps going off (three new batteries needed, £30-ish), need a new chassis for land-rover (probably £3k fitted).

I posted similar to this on MHFacts but not had one single reply. I will email Hymer if I can find an address.

Thanks to everybody for your help.

Picture may help!

Must keep trying.

That does look quite a lot like our setup though I am aware that any differences to the moulding could make access harder.

Yes, you can get the microswitch out without removing tap but I had fixed it once already (broken lead) so intended to replace the whole tap unit. Unfortunately, the one I ordered was sent wrong so I was forced to repair the old one. Turned out to be burnt points on the microswitch which I cleaned up. Probably will not last long but it will do for now!
