Looking for a couple of rechargeable torches, one for the MH and one for use in the home.
A bit fed up of coming to them and finding low or flat conventional batteries. Also very fiddly using normal rechargeables in them and having to remove and replace each time they need a charge.

Just general use, nothing specific.

I use a Dewalt 18v li-ion in the workshop sharing use of power tool batteries but over the top for the above and don't want to keep moving it around places. Use rechargeable head torch for fishing.

Ideally two chargers, 1 x 12v for MH and mains for in the house.

Not too expensive or bulky really, ideal sub £20 each

What are people using and recommendations if any please?

The small Li-ion batteries are superb, but charging should always be supervised. The ultrafire charger works 12V and mains:

UltraFire WF-139 Battery Charger for 18650 14500 17500 3.7v Li-ion Batteries UK | eBay

You'll need to include the car charger and a couple of the 18650 batteries.

Then torches I like this kind:

3000LM WF-501B XM-L T6 LED 18650 Tactical Flashlight Torch Lamps Light Black | eBay

They can be peanuts if you are willing to wait for delivery from China (never had any problems, just can take weeks.) Those links are UK sellers.

HTH.

The disadvantage of rechargeable torches is when you need one the battery is on its way out and fades quickly at least it's only a minutes job to replace a conventional battery, remove when not in use and the batteries last longer and don't corrode. I tend to prefer LED Lenser but they are not cheap. The P7 would seem to fit your needs. I had a 400 lumen Lighthouse Xplorer bought for Christmas this does Hi Beam.Dim Bead, Flood, SOS Flashing and Strobe its a bit heavy but a reasonable price I am told. I will keep this in the van.

Phil, Admin had a super torch at Greywell meet , hope he replies as I want to get one same as his, your post reminded me about it.It was a flood light and a beam as I remember, details please Phil ?Pretty please, hee hee.

Long life torch batteries

To get a really long life from torches, look round for the cheap led torches........a single led torch is best, and will last ages with 3 small aaa batteries.......you have to try it, but its cheap. I also use about 6 of the triple led pushlights (50p) in poundland at various locations around the van. These last a good few months used economically with 3 AAA batteries......Steve bristol

Treat yourself to a fenix, make sure you are sat down when you look at the prices. I have 2, both 5 years old and as good as new. Like most things you get what you pay for.

I find that one mans torch is another mans spawn of the devil. My personal choice is one of the cheap cree led torches with 18650 battery. I only have to chsrge them every few months even when fulltiming. The torches themselves are very cheap on ebay so the od duff one doesn't matter and usuazlly the sellerwill refund you.

If it's the one I've seen the OP's £20 budget won't buy the batteries lol. I know you weren't suggesting that though :)

I have one of these, for when I want to light up the moon :)

New 13800 Lumen 12x CREE XM-L T6 LED Flashlight Torch Lamp Light Hunting camping | eBay

I have a Clulite Classic.

The original bettery is a 6 volt rechargeable one, it lasts ok for a couple of years, but when it died, I got a U11 battery box for 4 batteries & some extreme rechargeables. I have to say that I've been very surprised by the efficiency of these & I would recommend them to you. they've been in my torch for just over a year & are still very bright.

They hold enough power for a days use But the cost may put you off.

I only have one of the zoom ones and didn't really like it - as Maxi above though, we're all different!

Do you actually own those or just something similar?

Some of these Lumen ratings seem to me way over the top and don't really make sense

st3v3' link : New 13800 Lumen 12x CREE XM-L T6 LED
* This torch uses of 3xCREE XM-L T6 LEDs, producing very bright beam of light(3800 lumens).
(powered by 3 batts)
Is it 13800 or 3800?

invalid's link : Type of LED : CREE XML-T6 LED. same as above but only one chip (powered by two batts)

Max Output brightness : 3000 lumens [lm].

so the first example using 12 chips (12 x the power) only produces an extra 800lm

This torch here running 4 x XML chips at a total of 3500lm and using a 4 x
18650 batteries can only output that level of brightness for around 45minutes.

I'm guessing some of those claims with regards to brightness are pie in the sky. That aside still bloody good value for money assuming the batteries don't catch fire. :)

Thanks to date guys, a lot to take in and totally agree that one mans choice is not another's.

Research is ongoing and is likely to involve Amazon purchase because of using up vouchers from a recent annual event.

Let you know the eventual choosing.

Oh, without a doubt. I prefer to use the following scale:

Maglite,
Candle light,
Work torch
walking torch
f'kin bright
Light the moon

The single 18650 one is somewhere between walking torch and f'kin bright. The fenix is walking torch and the big one is moon as I said.

Yes and yes - hence my comment about supervision, and a decent charger.
