I remember the ferry at the hawks from south to north queensferry in my old mans Morris 1100
obviously I’d be too young to drive but I’m sure terry can tell us his experience of driving onto the ferry

I'll give it maybe 30 years before the cables are questionable.

The 2 big no-nos for bridges in coastal environments, as far as durability goes, weathering steel, and cables. So, 1 out of 2.

As much as I love my bridges, I think this should have been a tunnel. That said, I don't know what the ground is like in that area, so maybe tunnels were genuinely ruled out for geotechnical reasons.
