PURI SOL.

Good evening friends.

I've just realised I've left Puri sol in my water tank. It's been in the tank for several days, and it's going to have been in there for 9 days by the time I can drain it out. I'm aware that it won't go any good after 12 hours, but is it likely to do any harm either to us or the pump, seals, taps etc?

I don't think so. If I remember right it says you can drink it. That will probably depend on dilution rate though I don't know

You can always flush the tank if you feel the need. Remove the internal drain plug and with a hose through the top access give it a good rinse out. I putt the ramps under both offside wheels when doing this to clean out tank ( same van ) to aid drainage.

I plan to do exactly that and then add Aqua Sol to the fresh water I put in.

I spoke to Clear Tabs who said that after 12 hours, the bacterial film, that the sterilisation removes from the reshwater tank, begins to re-form, effectively wasting your time and effort. I would repeat the treatment, but I am very cautious ...

I think I will follow your advice Rob, I normally use puri clean and it never seems to dissolve completely meaning a flush is needed to get rid of the sediment in the tank. The manufacturer of Aqua Sol say that it can be added to fresh water when filling with no adverse effects on the system and is safe to consume.
They also make Purisol and state that it should only be used at the beginning and the end of the season.
So I would be flushing the system before use.

Got a bit of down time at work so thought I'd reply now. So , that's what I'm going to do. I assume I'll need to run fresh water through the taps, including the hot tap function as I ran the Puri sol through them as well at the start. What about the hot water boiler? Sorry, new to this as our campervan hot water was.....boiling the kettle . Once I've flushed everything through, I'll think I'll do it again a couple days before we go as it says if you leave it in too long "stuff" might start to grow again. Once I've finally flushed that out with about a thousand rinses I'll put some aqua sol in to keep it fresh. Hope I've got all that right? . Now back to work . Thank you all. Colin.

You can always fill the tank with fresh water and run it through the hot water taps to flush out the boiler after you have flushed out the main tank with the hose. There should be a drain valve on the boiler so you can empty it first if you wish.

To be honest, I think a couple of flushes and adding the Aqua Sol should have it covered.

Probably worth doing a fresh flush when you can.
I use the AquaSol product from same company and only use that - higher concentration at the start of the season and then the weaker regular solution on each fillup for the rest of the year.
Done that for last 5 years and still alive after drinking the water

I have seen multiple posts on forums advising against Miltons on Motorhome tanks. It can have adverse effects on certain parts of the plumbing.
Can't recall what exactly, but for any Milton users maybe worth a check. I don't use Miltons, so don't need to search for the details myself

I would never drink the water from there. Either water from stand pipes or from home in separate containers, for drinking, always boiled, is my choice. Buying water abroad in 5 litre bottles is my way of staying safe. I’d only use the tank water for washing dishes and washing me. Showering n the like.
I do drain it before the really cold weather sets in, and then leave a heater, set on low, in the van , to prevent any remaining water from freezing.

I never drink the water from the tank either. Much easier to drink from a mug or glass filled from the tap. I've never added any chemicals to the water in the tank and never encountered any issues.

For all of the 18 years we had the latest motorhome that we`d owned from new we always drank water straight from the tap / tank and once it had been in the tank thought it tasted better than direct from the house.

We did not have a water meter at the house back then so i used olympic swimming pool quantities of water to keep it flushed regularly and also used Puriclean twice a year.

We are still here today and ever had any health issues apart from the bloody aches and pains which i cannot blame on drinking the motorhome water.
