Who's in France?

How bad are they? We land in Calais on Friday, I'm wondering whether to be prepared, or whether some of the news channels are over-egging it.

I think it was just today and maybe possibly a weeks time. I'm in France but when I checked the news at Lunchtime it seemed to be around Paris mainly. Certainly nothing going on at Lac de Vassiveire. There is nobody here to protest! Apart from a few motorhomers. :D

Looks like a question of avoiding the big cities - which we do anyway as our old diesel vehicle would be clobbered by their moneymaking LEZ schemes.
We'll have to wend our way back to dieppe from spain soon, shouldn't be too difficult

Think the French have missed a trick there in the moneymaking department.
£4ish for a critair sticker .

Currently in Dordogneshire, La Roque Gagec. We opted not to travel anywhere today in case roads got blocked. No obvious action here as I expected, although the village seemed quieter, but that could be the wind down in the season.
Today was only supported by one union. Next Thursday 18th has the support of the 8 major unions, so could be a bigger disruption.
I reckon if you are not in a city and try not to travel on the day it will be fine.

Thanks all. We were in France for the first gilet jaune protests a few years ago and thought it was going to just be one day, so settled in and stayed put. The next day when we moved, we expected an easy run. But no, it was a bit of a pain with blocks every junction. They were mostly good humoured at least.

So I wanted to be prepared for this time.

We have the crit'air vignette, but as the vehicle is Euro 3, it's a crit'air 4.
I understand that it is possible for us to pass through some zones, like Rouen for instance, but to do so we have to apply each time for a 24 hour pass. I prefer to plot a pleasant route around such places if we're not in a hurry.

Anyone noticed this year that loads of village and small town signs as you enter have been turned upside down? Apparently that's another protest from the farmers. 😁 They like a good protest the French. I'll be protesting in Amboise later if they don't have any good cheese!!

Let me know if not Barry, I'll send you some Laughing Cow.

No, don't mention it.

Mentioned the town signs the other day. Had a few good chats with northern catalonians this year. The French ain't happy.

Overnight crossing Portsmouth Cherbourg on Wednesday night, sailings as per normal, no checks whatsoever at Portsmouth including gas. Didn't see any remnants of the protests en route to Ile de Re, the main item outside of Paris on the French websites was a burning bus in Rennes. All quiet in the rural areas, the unions are saying everything will be shut down on 18th, so we will be staying put with supplies on 18/19.

Pretty sure they do

We are here, we've got stocked up with groceries and fuel so all we need to do now us choose where to go.

How long you got? If I were starting again (on our way home) it would be the Alps or Pyrenees. :D Forget about everything else. Don't bother with the Loire which is where we are now. Its so boring!! :D
