Problem with gears.

My MH has been parked up for a few months but intend to travel to Kilkenny next week so this morning I thought I would start the engine to let it turn over for a while but could not get it to go into gear, when I tried reverse it just makes a grinding noise and it wont go into any other but makes no noise, it is a Talbot express diesel 92, would any one know if this is serious or have a solution? Thanks in advance.

It is probably the clutch plate which has stuck to the flywheel.
You should be able to get it in gear without the engine running,if you can then put it in second gear with your foot on the clutch to the floor then turn the starter making sure there is nothing in front as off you will jolly well go !!!! keep letting the clutch pedal off up and down and it should free itself in a few yards.

Hope this helps and although it can be a bit of a drastic experience it should fix it.

I tend to agree with Wynthesurfer.I had a similar problem. My clutch is hydraulic, a few pumps solved the problem. It can also be possible that the slave cylinder is leaking, if yes, it has to be replaced. It will then need bleeding. Not an expensive job. You could do it yourself, if you are mechanically minded. First try the clutch pumping therapy. Note: If your clutch is not hydraulic, then perhaps someone on here will come forward to help.

It`s a cable clutch on these so what I suggested should free it.

If you go on the TE website I`m known as Exharmony as mine was written off last Good Friday and even though I`ve replaced it with the RV I and my son still miss it.

Thank you for your generosity, Ann and myself don't drink but a cuppa will be fine. Secondly, Wynthesurfer should get the medal, he came up first with the solution, I just agreed with him.

the ferry prices are the killer :mad:cost of living is expensive but the place and the people make up for that if only they would subsidise the ferrys you would get noware better
if you go west from dublin on the m4 for about an 1 1/2 hrs to athlone a great town and just north lough ree it's fantastic place we wilded on the harbour wall there for 3 days no probs water and toilets
16 days wilding all the way:p

There are some beautiful places and lots of them unspoilt, We will be heading down to Kilkenny in a week or two, just waiting on a couple of my nephews coming over from Manchester, then heading on to Cork with the intentions of driving back along the West coast, hopefully you will make it over before too long, then I will make you the tea.
